Which Hid?

But i have a question. Im looking at conversion kits and i noticed that some have ballasts and a relay harness whereas other only have the ballast. whats the benefit of the relay harness? is it necessary? is it harder to install? does it give the bulbs better performance?

Is it necessary? no. It's only necessary when you have a H4 hi/lo bulb. Other then that its not. Its a little harder to install but not to much hearder. It may help give a better ground, but these type things benefit more on stock halogen bulbs.

I found some kits on ebay that have both hi and low for about 380.00 they do not use a motorized shield. They have a second filiment that lights up. Sounds better than a moving part. 1 year warranty on the bulbs, 2 years on the rest.

The only problem with that kit is when you light up the high beams its going to take time to charge. Thats the only reason I wouldn't buy one without the solenoid. The hi/lo kits I used to sell had their hi/lo beams that way, but alot of people didn't like how it was working for them.... Without the motorized solenoid, when you swtich to high beams, it's not instant, and can be scary. I can go into more detail over pm if you want.

I am going to guess that since my alarm flashes my headlights and, that would kill my lights if I had HIDs.

same here, when i got my alarm and remote start put in i asked to have the parking light flashing hooked up to my headlights. Everyone i talked to who had done it said it was a bad idea and that they had gone through multiple sets of headlights in a couple of months.

so im kind of curious how to HIDs go? would they burn out?

"Flashing" HID's sounds like a bad idea to me. Even if you tried, you probably wouldn't get the same effect as you would from a Halogen bulb. My HID's "flash" so to speak when they get turned on anyway, and it takes them a couple minutes to get warmed up after that. If after the "flash" they were to get turned right back off without getting the chance to warm up, I'd think that would be a recipe for burned out HID bulbs...my $0.02.

What kit did you you buy and how much did you pay? I really want HID but I don't want o loose my high beams. I hear the the motorized ones fail quickly and the dual filament take a few seconds for the highbeams to kick on. Also I am worried about finding replacement bulbs in the future.

I've looked through my eBay history, but since it has been more than 60 days since the purchase, I'm unable to find a way to recover the auction details. To the door, I paid right at $250 US. I didn't lose my high beam functionality because the bulb adjusts to reflect the light higher when I switch to high from inside. The light doesn't get any brighter, but it doesn't need to either because it's pointed correctly.

Since I can't find the auction, I'll probably be hard pressed to get replacement bulbs if those ever burn out. I'm not worried about it though because they're designed to last 5 years, and I rarely keep the same vehicle for more than 2 years at a time. Worst case, I'll just buy another kit...there will probably be something nicer out by then anyway, so I don't sweat it.

Are the high beams just as good as before or better? I do a lot of driving in the country and it is nice to see the deer before he is lodged in my grill. LOL

The dual version I have does not cutout when going to high beams, you don't want a dual filament, if you go hi.lo.

I had my electronically-inclined best friend do the install for me. Once it was done I looked it over and it looked to me like the bulbs themselves were plug and pray (yes, I misspelled that on purpose), but there were wiring harnesses connecting what I assume to be ballasts and maybe some sort of control modules that I assume are responsible for moving the bulb to create the low/high beam effect.

The color I have is 9k Kelvin, which is very blue initially, then get brighter in a minute or two. From the research I've done, 8k-10k will give you the most blue, 12k will look purple, and the farther below 8k you go, the whiter the light gets until you get to about 4k where it starts yellowing, the area of Halogen.

The high beams are much better than before because the light I'm putting out is reflecting off the objects better than my halogen bulbs. As an example, get a yellow flashlight lens and a white flashlight lens and see which one allows you to see objects better...

theres no cut off and there is too much glare, need to aim ur right a little higher then ur left, or u can aim them both at the same level to give that european cut off look, aiming ur left higher than ur right will give it the jdm look but will blind other drivers, aiming the right higher than ur left will give u that usdm look , factory look.

yea the aiming is a mess, i just bought those headlights and havent aimed them since installation and im having trouble aiming them too.

i posted this in the other HID thread in classifieds but i figure ill post it here too to maybe get a better response:

ok so i got my HIDs in and installed yesterday but i can not for the life of me figure out how to make the high beams work

where the wires plug into the stock piece that would normally go into the bulb, ive tried every combination and none of them would allow the regular HIDs on and then the high beams when i pull the headlight arm back.

PLEAASE can someone help me and explain, i know there are 3 places on each to plug the wires in and one of the wires has 2 wires going into it and i beleive thats the ground and i had that one on top and the other black wire on the left and the power(red wire) on the right. But when i pull the arm to turn my high beams on they flicker then go out.

any help appreciated, also this is on a 3rd gen.

It may not have high beams depending on whic kit u put in.
