which hitch??

i am shopping for a hitch. i have a 2008 v6 sr5 i am looking to pull a 4x8 trailer with some basic landscaping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, fuel) on it nothing more. what brand hitch seems to be the easiest install and the best fit?
the same goes for the wiring harness, i am hoping for an easy install without tearing apart the whole back of the truck.

I just bought a hitch earlier this year for my 07. I ended up going with the Curt. Installation was pretty easy. The hardest part was removing the tow hook and I just had to take a hammer to the wrench a couple of times to break it free. After that it was easy. The screws on the passenger side were a little difficult because of the exhaust but if you just use an open ended wrench you can do it.
 
Reese is a good one, easy installation, and I have had two U Haul hitches installed with great success.
 
Not trying to thread jack, but this might be useful info for you also. Why do some of the hitches hardly show underneath the rear bumper and some(like mine) hang down and are noticeably visible?

The ones that you can hardly see are only mounted to the rear crossmember, while the ones that you can see more of are the weight-distributing type that connect to both frame rails. The weight-distributing hitches generally have slightly higher tongue weight capacity and higher overall capacity... not to exceed the vehicle's limit, of course.
 
To the OP... after much research, I went with the Curt Manufacturing model 13445 and am very happy with it. The wiring connector bracket needs to be bent out of the way so the lid will open, but it stays tucked up out of the way. Got it from etrailer dot com.
 
Draw-tite or Reese are the leaders in hitches. They make EXCELLENT hitches...About 5+ years ago the two companies merged (or one bought the other out). In either case they are now one company and still make EXCELLENT hitches.

U-Haul hitches are made by Draw-Tite.

i looked briefly at a curt hitch but hadnt heard of the name so i stayed away from it, i was researching a hidden hitch lastnight that seemed good but i didnt know about the weight distribution bit. maybe ill look more into the curt.
any info on good wire harness's?
 
I've been meaning to write up my install this past weekend. Several hitches are the same deisgn and owned by the same company here. So it all comes down to who is the cheapest. The biggest difference is how much you can pull or have attached to the hitch as tongue weight (bike racks, stoarage rack, anything hitch mounted but doesn't have wheels). For most people, you get the maximum you can - just to be safe if you ever tow something really heavy or unexpected. But if you know your boat and trailer is 2500lbs, then a 5500 hitch is sufficient.

Remembering past threads, a lot of the newer 4th gens already have the wiring in place for trailering. Check the frame behind the rear tow hook on the drivers side. Hopefully there is a plug. I assume that most of the new hitches have a bracket to reloacte it closer to the hitch. - I have no recommendations on ease of installation of the wiring harness.
 
that one looks good and got good reviews but one of the reviewers mentioned it sticking out the back 6-8 inches! thats a bit much does yours stick out that far?

Besides the stock hitch I don't think there are any that don't stick out like this.

Whichever Hitch, Whatever Hitch, Every Hitch is a Rich Hitch.

I don't know, I just felt like doing that.
 
FYI,

Reese, Draw-tite and hidden hitch are all the SAME company and are the EXACT same hitches. The ONLY difference is which sticker is put on it. Whichever of those is the cheapest is that one you should buy.
