Which Keyless Entry Fob?

So guys, sorry to beat a dead horse, but I cannot find my answer anywhere...

Basically, I do not have a keyless entry remote. Keyless entry was standard on my 99 SR5, but I do not have a remote. I also do NOT have a factory alarm installed.

Question is:
How do I know which remote I need?

-I have called 4 local(ish) dealers and they all tell me the same part number 89742-35050 which I can find NOWHERE on-line that agrees with this.

-I was told to call with my VIN and they could tell me the FCC code. When I ask about an FCC number they have no idea what I am talking about. They claim that every single 1999 4Runner will use the same remote. I am not willing to gamble $146 on a remote that I am almost positive will not work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

That is the same looking one that I have. I dont know about part numbers, but its identical to mine.

My 4runner also has keyless without no factory alarm.

Yeah, it does LOOK like what I need, but every site I type my VIN into says in great big red letters, "Hey, idiot, this sh!t won't work for you."

Apparently there are an assortment of FCC codes for these FOBs, and well, they're too expensive to purchase 6 and see which one works.

How much more is it at the dealer versus online? If its not too much more I would just go there so you can verify it works before you leave the parking lot.

I dont know if this helps but i've done some research on this when i was trying to replace my remote, so i can help with the remote part but that's about it. Just make sure you guys just match the FCC ID # which is/(around) HYO15127 for our trucks. A lot of the ones that look the same wont program unless you get the matching alarm in your truck. good luck!

I have the same code on mine except at the end there is a V instead of a 7 like yours..
ie. HYO1512V ... Hope this helps A.Wilson013

PS: Mine has the factory alarm(Anti theft system & immobilizer, as they call it) as well though.

yup mine is "Q" too not an O sorry. i think the only thing you have to worry about is the first 3 letters. the one i bought on ebay a while back had a totally different code

Next time you are over at my place you can test one of my fob's on your truck and see if it works.. .

I think you guys are misreading your fob's.

OP...I have a friend with a 99 SR5 and his code is HYQ1512Y. My sisters 99, my 99 & 02 are all HYQ1512Y also, but those are all Limiteds. I have never seen anyone post that they have a different code than HYQ1512Y on their 3rd gen fob before.

Mine looks like an O and I have 20/20 vision lol.

I appreciate it, but the pre-99 setup is completely different.

I am pretty sure I am just going to buy Tucson4runner's Viper 5701 in the classifieds section... That should save me the embarrassment of buying a part that won't work, and I can have remote start. Outstanding.

Sorry my stuff isn't good enough... lol :jk: Wished my runner was a 99 or above.... :violin:

It's alright man. I am sure you could drive over the top of my 99 any day you wished.

On another note, I sent Tucson4runner the money for the alarm, should be installing it next week =)

Yeah right.. if I can ever get that thing running again!! Shoot even if I did get the truck running I wouldn't be able to catch you!!

And thats awesome about the alarm! You wont have to go outside in the morning and scrap ice off!! just remember to put your defrost on at night before you get out! Lucky!

Google both FCC codes. One will get plenty of hits, one will get zero. Your keypad is probably just too worn down...or that vision is not what it used to be.

:flipoff:  I just had it tested.... but yeah it is worn down, as it's the original with the with the little aluminum rectangle/key code :wink2:
