Which new exhaust should I get?

I did a search on here and didn't get any results on which exhaust system to get, only the ones to stay away from (TRD, which really is Borla but 100% more, magniflow which is very loud, etc.) Basically, I just want to replace my stock exhaust system. Where can I buy a whole system? And which muffler should I go with? I want a muffler that's quiet like the stock one was.

if you want stock buy OEM its that easy. There is nothing wrong with Magnaflow it just depends on the length of the muffler that makes it loud or quiet, ie. 16" 18" 22" so on and so forth. Go to a muffler shop and explain what you want and they will satisfy your needs.

My brother has a small shop so he'll help me install it, he told me to just go to ebay and purchase a system on there. I did a search but couldn't find anything for a 97 model. How much is a stock replacement? I'm not going to pay a shop $100 to install it when I can get it done for free.

Stock exhuast ran roughly 600 from my local Toyota dealer. Mine rusted open and had to be replaced. This is for the 2 exhaust pieces after the cat. Buy new bolts also.

$600 sounds like way too much, I would much rather buy an aftermarket one but I'm having a very hard time deciding on whick kit to go with. Any recomendations? I do not want to get a louder exhaust system.

You're gonna have to shell out the 600+ bones for a complete OEM replacement. Or spend 3-400 and get one custom done.

Just out of curiousity... where did you get the information to steer clear of the TRD system?

I was thinking that too, the TRD system is pretty sweet IMO. I think JBA makes good stuff also. If you like them, PM me cuz I know of someone on yotatech who's selling a bolt on system for a good deal.

Yeah I love the TRD system. I originally was going to replace my Dynomax'ed setup with the JBA system, but couldn't find one for the life of me (searched for weeks online and drove everywhere within a 50 mile radius), so I picked up the TRD system from the stealer for $575

$150 for just the muffler? Used? New Magnaflows are $70 shipped. Or are we talking about a whole cat back system?

Any more opinions on which exhaust system to get? Which exhaust system sounds almost like stock? I don't want anything loud because I read some of them have a large drone in the 1500-2000 rpm range.

Your best bet is still going to be the OEM route or the longest Magnaflow with 2.5" tubing (22" is the longest one I think...). Or buy skydiver's used stock exhaust.

I read some of the members here talked about the 18'' magnaflow mufffler #11255, is that a quiet muffler. Also, if the 22" magnaflow is quieter what is the part number on that? Do I want 2.5 or 2.25 inch tubing?

Ya, the longer the muffler the quieter itll be... there is a thread on here i think, for sure on yotatech of the 22" magnaflow which sounds pretty good bc alot of ppl seem to be getting annoyed with aftermarkets and trade out later (thats the main factor i havnt gotten one yet). Im not sure of the part # but i no that there are mixed reviews on whether to get 2.5 or 2.25 piping and from wat ive seen the general census overall is the 2.25 piping.

TRD exhaust isn't bad but it costs about $200 more than having a muffler shop fab up some piping,your choice of muffler and a nice tip for solidly under $400. (I was quoted closer to $300) The TRD name isn't worth the extra cost for the same performance.

I've decided to go with a 22" Magnaflow, what size do I need? Do I need the one that's 2.5" in and 2.25"? On their website it says it's 22" long but 28" overrall.

22" is the body length....then there is the section of pipe on each end for an over all length of 28"....i haven't crawled underneath to measure the pipe..but it would be odd if the inlet and outlet were different.
