Which OEM Headunit Supports CD Changer?

I recently got a 2002 4Runner that came w/ the AD6803 head unit. It has a CD changer port so I purchased the PIE adapter which didn't work. PIE emailed me and let me know that the AD-series of head units isn't supported (which is frustrating since I couldn't find that disclaimer on any of the sites including theirs).

My question is, in 2002 they offered a CD-changer option right? Therefore there was a head unit that supported the changer and theoretically would support the PIE-U.S. Spec-Blitzsafe style solution. Does anyone know that part number? I'd like to find one for sale, I really want to keep the stock look.

i have this from my wife's 2000 sr5 4runner...

[edit] this model does support a cd changer. that is what the mp3/ipod thingy is connected to. you simply hit the cd button TWICE to access the port.

My OE 6803 AD HU

required specific firmware from Grom radio to work with an ipod adapter. Even though it worked the sound suffered. i ended up buying a aftermarket double din with USB and replacing the speakers.

really cost wise you might as well buy an aftermarket double din touch screen or standard unit, 6.5" screens bolt right in my 7" i had to lightly modify the dash trim. . the one I installed only cost me $160 plays dvd,cd,mp3,iPod capable, and bluetooth audio.

Thanks for the pics. I have the same head unit as you - the AD6803. I tried the PIE-TOY-AUX2 and I pressed every combination of buttons and could never activate it. Then I emailed PIE and they told me they didn't support the AD-series (not that it says that anywhere on their site).

So what type of aux solution is that you have hooked up? How is the sound quality?

i bought the adapter, maybe, five years ago.

unfortunately, i do not recall the manufacturer.

sound quality... okay.

i will tell you that you have to have the volume on the device turned up all the way and you will have to turn up the volume a little more when using the device.

I'm also looking for an answer in how to get my PIE-TOY-AUX2 adapter to work as well. Apparently, since it uses the CD changer port, it actually requires that a CD changer also be installed and plugged in with the adapter for it to work.

My problem though, is that I don't have a CD changer in my 1999 LTD.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Is there a way to trick the HU into thinking a CD changer is attached by crossing some wires?

this is some info on the page:

Vehicle specific information:

Radio must have external CD Changer capabilities.
Is not compatible with factory external CD changer present.
Is compatible with factory navigation radios.
Connects to 12-pin connector at headunit.

so, like the product i have... you plug the device into the cd changer port in the back of the factory radio.

also, on the same page:

Note:
NOT compatible with "AD" Series radios. (Example, AD6806)

i guess this is the same problem the OP is experiencing.

I've got my stock headunit out of a 1999 SR5 that came equipped with a separate Cd-Changer. The seperate Cd-Changer does not work, but the main head-unit works flawlessly. I will be pulling it out this weekend. 100 bucks shipped and its yours.

Thanks Joel for the offer but I'm going to hold off for now. PIE customer service got back to me and said PAC Audio may have a solution. I'd like to find a unit that gives me composite R/L hookup for my clarion aux cable that I want to mount.
