Which Optima Red Top battery for 2008 Urbanrunner in Colorado?

Hey all, looking for a new battery as mine has died a couple of times recently. Heard the Optima Red Top is good, but I'm a little confused on which model exactly would be best. I live in Colorado so it needs to be able to start in extreme cold.

An AGM is overkill unless you're spending lots of time on very bumpy roads. A Duralast Gold will give you much better bang for the buck. To answer your question, an Optima Red Top is for starting, a Blue Top is for deep cycle use, and a Yellow Top is both.

Have you had your battery tested? Are you sure it's being charged fully by the alternator?

Thanks for your information. I was more referring to the size of the Red Top or battery that I should be getting, sorry for the mix up of words. I do a lot of driving around CO and plan in the next couple of years to head up to Alaska and spend more time in the backroads of the SW. I've heard there's a lot of bumpy roads in these areas. I can get a Red Top shipped for around $150 from Amazon, just need to figure out which size. The Duralast Gold look like they are about the same price?

Yeah, it tells me the 8020-164 35 but I saw someone else with a 4th gen get the 8003-151 34R and it has more CCA (720 vs 800). Not sure if that matters or not?

You are waisting your money on an optima if it is a on road truck. Optima are only needed when there is lots of vibration or it is getting slammed around. Like in a heavy off road use situation or a drag car. Interstate has always been my choice, but I am in northern Canada. Go get any decent battery, even Kirkland (Costco brand) are decent and fairly cheap. There is absolutely no benefit from an optima in any normal vehicle.

I ran a a 34r red top in my t4r and it lasted me 4.5 years. Just under warranty and I only stopped running it because Costco stopped selling them. I have a big system though and I'm averaging 3 years on the Kirkland and it's got an awesome warranty.

I'm an Optima fan so I went with the 8037-127 D27F yellow top AGM battery. I got a good deal on it from a friend for $200.

Some-not all, AMG batteries, are truly worth the premium price - even if one never goes off-road.

I've been running Optima batteries, for 15 years now.
- first 2 red tops lasted 9 years each, in wife's car & my truck / USA made, back then
- but red tops, don't like to be run down
- I realized the yellow top deep-cycles, is a better design
- so when my old red tops finally bit the bullet / I switched to yellow top
But Optima closed their USA manufacturing plant / now Optima makes their junk in Mexico and carry a short product warranty.

Sears Platinum if memory serves me correctly, are AMG's made in the good old USA.

Since I'm from Canada - Canadian Tire has a new AMG deep-cycle battery, also made in USA (maybe by Exide)
- comes with a full 5 year full replacement guarantee, two top post sizes priced at $169 & $189
I even use an AMG battery in my vintage John Deere 318 garden tractor, with hydraulic snow blower.

I'd suggest looking at consumer reports for batteries. My understanding is Optima is not what it used to be.

Optima is garbage now. I would have gone with a regular battery, but all all my lights I added wanted a agm to handle the discharge and re charge. I got a Northstar 27f locally for $240 on sale.

Just so you know I called Optima last week about the batteries sold on Amazon and they are not an authorized dealer. So if you run into warranty issues will be out of luck.

I am picking up the X2 power battery from batteries plus on Monday it has a 60 month full replacement warranty. Can not tell you anymore than that right now since I have not picked it up yet.
