Which tires to buy opinion needed

P rated Cooper and Falken AT/3 for an on road AT. That way they are quiet, have good manners in the rain, and won't kill your mpg but will still kick ass. Not to mention cheaper too.

I purchased a set of Nitto Grappler G2's and have been happy with them. It's only been about 900 miles but they are a good balance between on and off road. If I would have done more research I probably would have purchased a set of KO2's for no good reason other than to have BFG's. (I've had them before and they are great). I also prefer the look of the KO2's over the G2's.

Slight road noise but not too much. The G2's are a pretty good tire.

Pirelli Scorpoin MTR's mine are 285/70/17 works great in the dirt.

Tire is just 30 days on the market.

Well hopefully at the end of the month we are buying one (SR5P) and frankly 85% of its life will be a kid hauler and grocery getter, but before it comes home it is getting either Duratracs or Toyo MTs. It's that 15% of the time that the road noise and mpg loss make up for!

Didn't go through all the replies and probably I am missing something, but what type of driving you do?
My son has a Jeep Wrangler with Goodyear Duratracs. 60K miles later they look like new. How many miles are they going to last? for sure over 100K. They are very good off-road tires but they excel on pavement too. Not noisy at all.
Then I personally use Michelin LTX on my 4Runner and used them for 15 years on my old Tahoe. You get 80K out of them. just don't rub their walls too much. But they are excellent all around tires.

I'd have to say I love the looks of the KO2's on any Runner, but I run Hankook Dynapro ATM's and have had zero issues with them in terms of on road/off road capability. Pavement noise is less than the BFG's I had on before it. They're just not as aggressive looking. However, it's really hard to beat the 50,000 mile warranty that comes with them. Just my .02 for ya.

I have roughly the same miles on my KO2s with similar experience. No increase in noise or other issues. Mostly on road with occasional mild trails.

I love how many people like to ask why you would buy a TE 4Runner and want to lift it and throw A/T tires on if you're not going to wheel it. Like the look and image derived from certain automobiles haven't been intrinsically linked since forever. A beastly, jacked up 4Runner looks badass no matter where it's driven.

The day people on a message board start paying my car payment, is the day I will be concerned with their opinion of what I drive and why. Until that happens, I will drive what I want.

OP I personally like the BFG but the Goodyear looks mean.

My T4R TE is on order yet (hoping to have it by the end of May). Part of my purchase deal was to have Cooper Discoverer AT/W (LT) tires put on it as soon as the dealer gets it. I've heard great things about them being an AT and winter tire all in one for year-round use. I'll have to update this thread when I get my T4R.

BTW, I got the tires myself from Tire-Rama for $245/ea (I thought this was a good price for LT tires).

Not to make you sad, but the new Falken AT is $185/ tire for a 285 LT with no tax and free shipping from Discount. Fantastic tire, too.

Just bought set of Toyo Open Country A/T2 for my T4R because I like them so well, for all conditions and roads, on my other 4X4 (Equator RMZ4). I went with LT245/75-17E @ $207. OTD with free lifetime balance and rotate - suggest same P rated tire for your needs.

I had Grabber AT2s on my old 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. Absolutely great tire. Used them in the mountain on back / hunting roads, aired-down on very soft sand and on asphalt and concrete. I just ordered a set of Michelin LTX AT2s and cancelled the order. Instead, I'm going with the BFG KO2s with an E rating. Costco said they won't install the C rated as the 112 falls below the 113 factory spec. Odd but I'll get the 4 extra ply (and weight). On Kauai, most off-roaders (who choose an AT instead of a MT) are running Toyo and BFG. Not a whole lot of Bridgestones. I'll see a Hercules Tera Trac on occasion but it's rare. Hoping I'm making the right choice. ANYTHING has to be better than the piece of crap Bridgestone Dueler 684 II set I'm replacing. 22,000 miles and down to 2/32 (or less). Aired properly and rotations every 6,000 miles. Junk - pure junk. I would have felt confident getting General Grabber AT2s.
