I was advised not to use a cleansing agent due to it being drastic and can clog the oil pump etc. Well I just changed the oil, w/ penzoil platinum, synthetic... any remedies? Or just wait it out?
While changing valve cover gasket, noticed lots of sludge.

You definitely do not need any cleansing agent. If its running fine, don't tamper too much with it. You want to gradually clean it so frequent 3000 mile changes with any ILSAC GF-5 or API SN oil will do the job.
In my opinion, I recommend Mobil 1 High Mileage or Pennzoil Ultra. With a few 3000 mile changes, it will definitely start cleaning up some of it. Did your oil change come out black?

Of if you don't feel like using a synthetic (the previous two mentioned oil are great) Pennzoil in the yellow bottle (PYB) does a good job. The key is frequency in changes.

Sorry no, I didnt think to take any pics.. I changed the oil at 199,999 (hard to forget it). Then took a roadtrip from san antonio to alabama (family lives there) and back. Apx 1900 miles round trip. Changed it right when I got back and it was dark, but not black, and it was a synthetic blend from penzoil.

About 13-15K miles ago I started to hear a ticking sound from the right side of the engine... I only hope that it is a sticky lifter. Since then I have recently been adding a quart of transmission fluid to my engine and turning it over for about 5mins. before changing the oil, but I hear that I could even drive for 150 miles before changing the oil.
I don't know how many others have had success with this method?
Keeping my fingers crossed that it work for me... but my engine seems to be running stronger than ever.
PS_ I also heard that it can be bad to switch to a synthetic after running reg the majority of its life... so if you have been running reg I would stop and go with a high mileage oil as suggested above.
