White 4Runners......Paint discoloration?

Just wanted to see if anyone else with w white runner has issues with discoloration? There are parts that look like permanent dirt are attached to the paint. My coworker has a 98 and mine is a 2000 yet mine looks like a cream color white next to his bright white.

The pic i attached is from the front driver side door below the mirror. Looks like a car wash put some kind of heavy duty cleaner or something and it bled through the paint.

My 97 has some discoloration, but all of the white vehicles I have had that were used and had some miles on them had discoloration. Looks like you need to get some Cleaner wax and go over the paint by hand to get those streaks off there and keep them off.

I have the same thing below the passenger cargo area window. I have washed, clayed and polished the area with an orbital and they are still prevalent. Considering it is 13 years old and wasn't garaged by the previous owner, I don't mind too much. I do have an interesting thin paint spot on the passenger door that I would fix (if I cared to fix either of the areas).

Wash the truck good, clay it and have at it with some wax/polish.

If you use a rotorary buffer and some XMT360 possibly yes.


I personally would polish it out with a rotorary using Menzerna Super Intensive Polish and then follow it up with a good wax.

I had similar problems with mine. Especially after I removed 14 yr old stickers. You'll need more than a clay bar and wax.

Also, and you may already know this. But there was 2 different whites available from the factory. A super white which is very bright white. And a pearl looking white which is more yellow, and is common on lexus's.

Correct. Natural white was offered for all years, and Golden Pearl was started in 01. Pretty sure it has clear, hence the pearl.

Yeah I meant natural white. Not super white lol

I just addressed this issue with my white 2000. I used my griots orbital polisher with a green pad with megs 205. I have a lot of discoloration on the lower panels.

My 2001 is far from white. The hatch is still white though but it was replaced back in 09'. Mine isn't white from the shear amount of mud that's been on it.

Yep. Bottoms of both passenger-side doors had this very issue.

My uncle and I just spent the day buffing and waxing it. Did wonders. A <strike>little</strike> lot of low-abrasive rubbing compound and some polish did the trick.

Two of us spent four hours restoring the paint on this. I don't think the previous owner (one-owner FTW) ever waxed it.

Looks almost like new now.

So, to recap: Buff the crap out of it.

My paint was beginning to oxidize and looks pretty similar really badly this year. I'm pretty particular about keeping my rig clean after wheeling it but being offroad a lot takes it's tool on your paint. I thoroughly was it and then did the "MeGuiar's 5 step" paint cleaning process: Meguiar's : 5 Steps . Did wonders on my paint and I will definitely be doing it once a year from here on out. Highly recommend. It's a whole days worth of work and takes it out of you but try it!

View attachment 96283you need to wash, clay, compound, polish, seal. Then work on the trim. Mine went from dull and oxidized to pearling white (2003 Natural White V8) in a matter of one weekend.

I used all meguiars products (Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, Ultimate Wax, etc, and a orbital polisher/ sander/ whatever from Harbor Freight that was $27 or so and 3 foam pads that were about $3.99, if I remember correctly. Washed with a quality carwash (I think I used the Ultimate Wash & wax) to remove the easy grime then used a soft microfiber and a little Dawn to remove old wax/ road grime. I didn't want to wash the whole thing since I had the cladding and it could discolor it. Then go to town, but you will need some elbow grease to get the hard to reach areas. I removed the roof rack for ease of access, but if you don't want to thats your choice. I'm very happy with my results, I also used the same stuff to clear up my headlights which didn't last as long as I had hoped (about 3 months of them being clear) but the paint is still as bright and shiny as it was when I did this in April.

Well I got it all completed. Used a compound wax and then a cleaner wax. I did it by hand though so it took forever. Still a few spots where the compound didn't quite come off so I'm going back over those. It even took out a lot of the scratches. Looks so much better now. Also removed the rear emblems. I f'ed up the paint in like two spots trying to get that adhesive off. After 14 years I could still smell the glue on the adhesive. Tried everything to get it off. Not as easy as people say. I used goo gone, goof off and a graffiti remover and a razor to get it off. Ridiculous.
