White Rims? Photoshop anyone?

Hey all,

I did the black rim thing years ago and now its just too played out. I'm buying my Grandpa's 03 in about a month and a half. It's a Dorado Gold SR5 V8. Anyway, I'm going Toytec Ultimate which cuts in to my wheel budget until a few more checks come in/sell 1 of my trucks. I'm wanting to try Plasti-Dip.

Anyone done them in white? Or at least have white rims on a 4th Gen?

I can PS it for you later, when I get home. But, I can already tell you (IMO) it will not look good. The nice thing about plasti-dip though is that it works as a base layer, so once you lay a couple coats down, you can paint it with rattle can any color you'd like. I have the Driftwood Pearl, which is a similar color to what you have and I'm planning on plasti-dipping and then going over the wheels with a gunmetal color.

great, thanks! i thought about the gun-metal route but that's headed in the same played out direction as black if you ask me. so, if i plasti them in white and then apply any color over the top, will i still be able to peel it off if i ever wanted to go back to original/sell them?

call me crazy, but I think dark broze would look sick with the gold.

The one precaution about white rims is that they'll never look clean agian... I think that's why more people go dark.

galactic, good point. brake dust will be fun to deal with!

im still wondering about being able to peal the plasti off after its been painted over. i guess i cant think why it wouldnt, but maybe someone has insight/experience!

painting it will be interesting. I don't think you'll have an issue peeling it off, but the paint my crack off of the plasti-dip in the process. Considering it's on a hard surface under the plasti-dip I don't think the paint will crack until you try to peel it off though

Paint and Plasti peel off just fine, its just A LOT messier. Check out my threads, I have mentioned it several times. I plasti-painted my spare first and it works and peels off just fine.

Doesn't look quite as bad as I had thought it would, but I still wouldn't do it personally. Yes, the plasti-dip will still just peel right off. But, as others have said it will be a little messier. The main problem with anything white is keeping it clean. Since the plasti-dip is very lightly textured, I could see it trapping dirt and not looking good. If you are planning on plasti-dipping, I would recommend investing in a can or two of clear coat as well.

thanks dusty! i think if the t4r were a darker gold it would help the look a little more. well, ill report back how white plasti + dark bronze duplicolor goes in a few months. thanks for all the help dudes.

I can attest to this. I had an old White Monte Carlo SS when I was a teenager. I painted the rims white to match and they were always nasty and never looked clean. Only after a good scrubbing did they look decent but once I drove it anywhere the brake dust and road grim showed on them almost immediately.

i tried to find a full frontal of the rim but it is nowhere to be found. i really just want to see it on an 03-05 dorado gold, the lift just helps me further visualize.

i agree. i think that photoshop doesnt quite do them justice because they're the 16's. not that they would look good, but 17's in a different style wheel with a gloss or matte white wouldnt look AS bad.
