Whitson Metalworks Racks

Gobi can get f*d imo. Glad I didn't buy a ladder and decided to make my own. Don't want to deal with slime wads like that.
 
Thats dirtball tactics by GOBI for sure. I dont care how bad i would like to get a cargo rack like whitson i will never give my money to that slime. Id rather support hard working individuals like myself. I hope someone comes up with an alternative.

Nobody has seen it yet. Still working on the physical form. The design is done and it seems like it will work just fine.

Also working on a tire carrier and some other bits. It's the time invested that holds me back.

I don't even want one and I hope he comes out on top. The similarities are very slight. They both go on the roof...and they both are full length racks.

My suspicion is that with 3rd gen 4runner becoming so popular as offroad rigs gobi all of a sudden saw an opportunity to scare off competition. It's a low tactic to begin with. Maybe they will send me a letter stating I will be sued or any one of the 30 or so builds with a full length rack. I'm starting to feel left out....

I though it would be a good idea, but figured quotes would be sufficient not thinking the mods would delete it.

I honestly had a gut feeling that they might pull something like that but felt lazy. Next time, I guess.

Can a mod chime in on why that thread vanished?

While 3rd gen owners do like to offroad and spend some $$$ doing it I think we are pretty budget orientated comparded to 4th gen and 5th gens. That is where the real money is for most of these offroad manufactures. Not many 2.5 suspension kits going on here comparded to the 4th and 5th gen guys for instance. Also looks at the gobi group buy. Mostly 5th gens. Not many third gen guys would buy a rack at 1/3 the value of their rig. WMW said via his site that he was working on a project and could no longer take order this summer. It could have been a 5th gen rack which would directly threaten the main cash cow of gobi. Hope you pull thru this WMW. I was going to purchase your product.

FYI, the law suit is specifically concerning the 3rd & 4th Gen.

For now this is true. I personally predict the 3rd gen going down in history right along side the 40, 50, and 60 series land cruisers as a desired "classic" offroad or camping vehicle. The cash isn't going to stop on 3rd gens where as I don't necessarily see that with the 4th or 5th. I'm not trying to compare vehicles, just the image they present.
 
Hey guys, I just designed a winch bumper that mounts to the frame of a 4Runner. I'm filing a patent on it. If anyone has a concept that is similar, I'm suing you.

Hell yah we will be classics! Just need a nice roof rack to finish her off, and it won't be a Gobi.

They are. Everything they do is priced for someone that has a great job and wants to go offroading. Problem with a lot of great jobs is....well its hard to get away from the workplace.

I'm on the other side of the spectrum. I don't get paid shit but I have tons of time on my hands for the most part lol.....I take donations. Gotta get my education complete.

:sniper: I have been mulling over what rack to go with and kept going back to the Gobi simply due to it looking so damn good. In reality the price would most probably have kept me away.

All that being said, them being major DBs is GUARANTEED to keep me away.

And, to their credit, they have helped me make my choice. Regardless of how long it takes me to wrangle the funds, I will go with the Whitson. Good rack and just as good of a decision out of principal.
