If you do decide to do something w/ those chrome bumpers, definitely get them color matched like you suggested. That will give it an updated look for sure.

nah the roof rack is slid all the way to the back and it clears the spoiler and liftgate by at least 2 inches

haha, buying new bumpers would be one way.

But, if it were me, I'd drop my 4Runner off at a professional paint/body shop and let them sand down the chrome and do all the paint work. I've seen it done to other 4Runners before and it looks great.

Don't know the price difference between professional sanding/painting your existing bumpers vs just buying new bumpers, but I'm sure new color matched bumpers are $$$$$.

It's not that it looks that bad...IMO, the chrome just gives it a dated look. I'm also partial to the color keyed bumpers offered on the 3rd gen Sports...thus my opinion is swayed if you will. (Not a big fan of chrome either.)

My wife drives a '00 4Runner SR5 w/ the chrome bumpers. If she wasn't so against me modding her 4Runner (she likes the "stock" look), I would have already had her chrome bumpers color keyed. :bigok:

That depends. You could paint it or leave it as is. Just comes down to personal preference.

Yeah, once you think you have done everything, there's always something else .

No idea how much it'd cost. I'm sure that would vary depending on the shop. Just a guess, but maybe $500-$700?? Swing by a body shop and find out what they'd charge you. :bigok:

umm....pop them off...paint...and put them back on?

No they're not powdercoated. True auto paint.

The chrome finish has to be first sanded down so paint will adhear to it. Next shoot a coat of primer on it and then a finish coat. Top that off w/ a coat of clear and that's it.

The prep work is the most important b/c that will determine how well the paint adhears.

Entirely custom paint job on Edwin's?? No, not at all :nono:. It's oem Sunfire Red. He just had his bumpers painted using the same color code. The photos may make the overall color of his 4Runner look custom, but it's just the standard red.

Oh hm. Yeah it must have been the pics, that didn't look like the OEM Sunfire Red. Good lookin' color though. Where can you look up the factory color codes, Toyota's website? Or the dealership would probably be able to tell you I imagine.
