Who else loves the location of the V6 oil filter?!

I actually enjoy changing the oil on my V6. No rubber arm needed to reach the filter, no oil running down my arm, no oil spilling over undercarriage parts. I use a dixie cup to collect the oil that gathers in the oil holder.

I use an oil extractor so all I ever have to do is lift the hood . Just bought a Kia Sorento V6 with a very similar setup.

Issue with oil extractors is they don't get all the oil out and I personally like to see what's coming out of the pan and inspect the magnet on the drain plug.

My wife has a Honda Pilot. The oil filter is a pain in the @$$ because it is directly above the frame. No matter what I try I get oil dripping. My V6 is a joy to change the filter on.

Agree, it’s another reason I went back from a 5th gen to a 4th. I just jam a Gatorade bottle underneath the drain nipple and then pour whatever leaked out into my drain pan for recycling. Super helpful for the DIY oil changer.

When I was young and poor, I had a 1993 Taurus with the 3.0 V6....the filter was located between the electric fan and the starter. I would almost always shock the piss out of my self every time I did an oil change, as the filter would inadvertently short the starter. I hated working on that car....

anyway, i like where the filter is. very easy to check for leaks unlike the ones in the bottom.

LOVE it, its one of the main reasons, I got the V6 over the V8.

Just changed the oil on the rig.
Love the filter placement. Use a small water bottle to collect the drain off + the fact that I fit under the rig with no jack required.

Worse vehicle I've owned for DIY oil change is the K20 in the 8th Gen Civic Si. Have to remove the passenger wheel, fish arm along axle to a blind hole. Then spill oil all over the exhaust flex pipe.

My '06 CRV was like that...but the good news is...that part of the frame will NEVER rust...

Yes, its definitely a "feature". I have a special pair of angle pliers for pulling the drain plug and I discovered that a Ratio-Rite cup (for measuring 2-stroke oil in dirtbikes) can be positioned to sit steady on the serpentine belt so I don't even have to hold it (though I forgot about it and left one in there once and didn't find the melted remains for about 500 miles after I changed the oil, oopsie!).
My wife's 4.0 TJ Wrangler filter is mounted to the side of the engine case and there is absolutely no way to avoid a major spill all down the side of the engine and oil pan. One more thing to clean up, every freaking time!

just as I was getting to the age where I don't change my own oil anymore!

Fabricate somehow a funnel that directs oil out and poke a hole in the filter before removing to get almost all of the oil out of it.
