Who has remote start? And who disabled the unlock off operation?

With the new 5th gen (and every other toyota with the VIP remote start from what I understand) the remote start will disengage when you unlock the car to get in. Personally, I think that is BS. Why in the world would they do that? It's dumb to start it twice.

Has anyone figured out the workaround from this? It's redonkulous. Also, how about the remote start time limit? It's too short, and it only brings the car up to just above the c line, so it's not warm inside.

I have remote start and it doesn't disable the truck when you get in, only if you put your foot on the brake. Just put the key in the ignition, turn it to the on position and put it in drive. :driving:
 
I think it may be the SR5 and the trails that don't shut off because they have the key and dont use the fob like the limited. Another thing that bothers me is that the when the car is started it only runs the current heat and cooling setting you had when you shut the car off. I have a 2008 silverado with remote start and when I start the car in the winter the heated seats come on, Defroster, and heat. In the summer it turns on the air. Apparently it works off the sensors to what the current tempature is. That is a really nice feature that with all the technology these cars have I can't believe it doesn't do that, as well as shutting off when I open the door no point to that either
 
Good call, It has to be something with the keyless fob thing. I dont really care about hte auto temp settings, I usually set them prior to getting out anyway. All of my other cars that I've installed a remote start on, i have had to do that, so I'm in that mode anyway.
 
I have a 10 trail with the VIP start, and listed in the VIP manual is that it turns itself off whenever a key is used to unlock the drivers door, the unlock button is pressed, or the lock button is pressed for a few seconds. It sucks, and I never would have paid for the VIP starter if I had known it required two starts. I haven't figured out a way around it either.
 
here is info i posted in another thread...(there are several threads on this topic you may want to review)...

i just had a VIPER 4203 remote start installed, also a "PKALL Bypass Platform" was on my bill....local custom-shop guy ive used for 10+ years...total was $359+tax.

i have a 2010 SR5 with regular 'key' (not push-to-start)

i had called two dealers..both quotes for factory install were ~$725...i was not aware opening the door killed the engine with factory starter..that would be unacceptable to me.

the Viper 4203 has a Very, Very Tiny one-button fob...i press once to start (can be set-up for 2-button presses to start, so u dont bump it accidentally)...i get a visual led/lights and audio beeps on the fob response that the signal got to the vehicle...the vehicle parking lights flash and stay on too....i use the same fob button and press once again...to unlock the doors (if they were locked)
 
I have the TOY-VIP remote start and also think it's silly. I read somewhere it is a safety feature but I'm unsure what it safegaurds against.
 
Yeah I think it's pretty rediculous. Honestly, if they fixed the configuration where the car could be driven away without the key, then it would be an easy thing to fix. I don't understand why it doesnt work just like an aftermarket system
 
so far there is no work around for this.

I have it as well and have talked many out of getting it and going after market.
 
I agree that the factory remote start only helps to get the engine warm from a distance.
The I have to get in and start with key on my 2011 SR5.
 
I have the VIP crappy start. I hardly used it. The range, the timing, one way remote...it all sucks and regret getting it. My guy said that for $550 i can get 2 way remote start with a mile range and additional security. Open while starting, lower rear glass...etc.
