Who is running Tacoma shocks and struts?

I was under the impression that with this combo, upper control arms wouldn't be needed. I know it'd be a good idea to get them eventually but I didn't budget for that cost. I guess I'll be saving for those as well

So I've got my suspension put on my 4Runner. I ended up going with the 2014 stock Tacoma shocks with Stock 2014 front coils. Trd fj rear coils and 3/8" front spacers. I sit 1/2" higher in the back. Really happy with the way it looks, but not very happy with the ride. It feels a bit bouncy, I'm curious if it's because I've got Trd coils in the back and stock coils up front. Anyone have any input on this?

I have to agree with 989mikelee83 on this. I replaced the XREAS on my 2006 SE 4x4 V6. I got a steal on 2014 TRD Tacoma front struts and rear shocks. I got a pair of rear coils from a 2014 FJ trd. I did not do any spacers or lift. The ride is pretty bouncy front to back up to around 40 mph. It rides great on the highway.

You don't need upper control arms unless you plan on puttin large spacers up front. I've got 3/8" spacers and my control arms are fine.

So you have Trd coils all around. I thought mine was bouncy because I have a progressive and a non progressive spring combination. I wonder if I ditch the Trd fj coils in the back, then put my stock springs on. I would have to put a spacer in the back to level it out but I'm curious if the Trd coils are causing my bounce.

I kind of thought that, I have a 1/2" spacer I'll be putting on the front. Also, I'll be installing 1.5" daystar on the rear with factory coils and I'll have the Tacoma coils up front. When I get them on I can report back with ride quality

Are you running stock UCA's with the Tacoma coils and a spacer up front? Didn't think you could accommodate both with stock UCAs.

I don't have them on yet but that's what I had planned. Everything I read says you don't normally need uca's until you get to about a 3". Made sense to me because people run the daystar 2.5/1.5 with factory control arms and the Tacoma coils and a 1/2" spacer should yield the same amount of lift. I could be wrong though, that's why I had asked

Finally got mine done today! Had to have a local shop do it since I was obviously never going to do it on my own... I think it looks pretty good, just need some bigger tires!

This;
Removed XREAS

2014 Taco TRD "Off-Road" front complete strut/spring assembly and rear shocks.

Toytec 3/8 spacer front, Daystar 1.5 spacer rear keeping my stock rear coils.

Total gain --- Front +2.75" | Rear +1.5"

My post with full details is in the "Tacoma Suspension Swap" thread somewhere.

But the short version is...

04 sport v6

Removed XREAS.

Installed:
2.5/1.5 daystar spacers
2014 Tacoma TRD springs/shocks
Rear FJ springs
Uniball UCAs

I had the Daystar kit on with XREAS, and I preferred the ride better, but the system was getting really old and the UCAs were kinda pushing it.

The Tacoma Suspension makes things a little more "mushy" and little more roll in turns, but for the price and quality I'd do it again. It does better off road as well. I think I'm somewhere around a 3.5/2.5 lift.

Note: I would NOT do this with the daystar front spacers unless you do new UCAs

2005 Tacoma Suspension on a 2000 4Runner SR5

I just bought some 2005 Tacoma Shocks/Coils/Struts off of CL for my 2000 SR5...

I think I may have screwed up and they wont fit. Someone told me it may even be dangerous...

Sorry total newbie, any advice is greatly appreciated!

I did review the lift page http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/66976-3rd-gen-4runner-lift-information-faqs.html but still can't figure it out.

Maybe one of you can help me out :0)

Thanks! ...

If I were to swap out old 5100s on my 4 runner for new 5100s on the tacoma I am guessing I could just reuse the bushing in the old shock body?

Help

Just purchased a set of Tacoma struts for my 4Runner. Also got 1.5 spacers for the rear and 10mm spacers for the front. Curios if anyone has a similar set up?

I just bought 2015 tacoma trd front struts with springs and rear shocks . For my 2003 toyota 4runner sport . Where could i buy the rear bottom bushing for my shocks ?

How much lift you ended up getting up front

Dead Thread Revival

Looking to purchase a set of 2017 TRD Off Road Tacoma shocks, comes with front coils no rears. I’m wondering if I were to get say a OME 1” rear spring would that give me the factory rake? I’ve heard running with the FJ rear spring is an option but barley levels it. I am not really looking for any more lift then the shocks give me.

Edit: looking to have a good level but not use spacers.

Bluesky you’re the man for responding, and for creating that post which will be a guide for me. I understand you went with the rear FJ spring, which was my initial thought. I feel like I want the rear slightly higher then the way yours sits. (Hard to tell from the angles posted) that’s why I was wondering if I should do a 1” rear spring from Bilstein or OME? Again yours is one of the only visual references I have for this set up so i “think” that is what I want.

Thanks, just paying forward for all the help and advice I've received here.

I responded in another thread regarding the rake reduction, mine went from almost 2.5" rear high to right at 1" rear high. I can take a side profile pic of my truck if that would be helpful.

I have the tacoma front shocks and struts with no spacers. Ordered the rear bushings and will put the rear shocks on next week.

Right now I look really level. I didn't really want a lift, just a better ride. I gained just over an inch in front, which is fine. The ride is 10x better.

Did you use you stock springs in the rear with the Tacoma swap?

I ran a daystar kit on mine with Tacoma TRD shocks and springs.

The Tacoma shocks will not fit on the rear unless you replace the lower bushing. The hole is too small on the Tacoma shock.

Do you have a part number for the bushings. How much do they cost?
