Who knows about transfer case issues?

Recently my center diff was stuck in 4WD.

I went to a mechanic who only had a limited amount of time to help, but was hooking me up. We tested the front diff sensor, and the 2 transfer case switches (with the 27mm) and all 3 were good.

He then said times up - the best option now is just to take off the front driveshaft so it won't be binding up when I turn.

His guess now is that the actuator on the T-Case may be bad.

Is it better to get a whole new t-case or should I try to source just the actuator?

According to him, to change the actuator, you'll have to pull apart the T-CASE....minimum 5 hour job.

Any advice?

If it were on my hoist in my shop I would make damn sure that the motor is the culprit before I started disassembling it. You should be able to activate it directly (i havent looked into how)

Tcase motors fail all the time on domestic trucks and are a sneeze to replace, not sure on the failure rate on our trucks.
