Who Lives in So Cal?

Hey all, not sure this is appropriate for this thread but since we're all SoCal'ians here, where better to ask the question. If there's a more appropriate place to post this question let me know.

So I'm wondering if there are anywhere in the local area (within an hour's drive) where there are dispersed, drive-in camping? I know Big Bear has some places on Skyline Drive trail that allow it, and I've been down to Anza-Borrego where I know it's also allowed. I was hoping to find somewhere a big closer.

Los Padres NF. Just north of Magic Mountain.

Close enough for one-nighter trips. Do a little wheeling and a little hiking and a lot of vista-enjoying.

Off-road classes?

Has anyone done the 4Wheel drive training class at Hungry Valley? Is it worth it to a new 4Runner owner, or is it better to go on runs and learn?

I took the beginner course with Badlands at Hungry Valley SVRA.

If I don't know something I'd rather learn from an expert rather than try to figure it out for myself, especially if I can do some serious damage, financially and physically...but that's just me.

It covered the basics. Not bad for a few hundred bucks and one day.

I forgot to add that after the course, I knew what every feature of my vehicle was for and when and how to use it.

That and how to pick lines were definitely worth the price of admission.

That would be awesome. I've done a couple on my own just local like Santiago peak and have done a lot of forest road driving to camping and hiking spots in my old AWD. The price is what gets me too. Could be using that 300$ for something else.

Like sliders, or skids, or communication, or lights, or lift, or roof rack.....

Lets do a Hungry Valley So Cal run, its fun to test out all the features like crawl control and practice recovery. Advanced or 1st time guys can all come, Its fun to play on the made made obstacles. With lots of new mods its a good proving grounds.
