Who uses a Garmin GPS?

I am curious how much you use it for off roading. I have read on their website that certain models will have maps/roads for Mexico & Costa Rica...

I can't speak to Garmin's ability to have maps for other countries, but if I were you, I'd be sure not to do anything in Mexico.

I worked down there for two years, and the only thing I wished Garmin included was areas where one would NOT be at least 50% probable to get shot...

I use mine to travel as I pay 1 price for lifetime map updates compared to the oem nav in my LE that I have to pay for updates.

otherwise, I use it for :

1. saving trips
2. building trips on my computer and transferring them
3. saving routes to new places, that I tweak on the computer
4. nice I can swap my trips/routes/etc from garmin to garmin when I do upgrades

try doing that on the oem nav for steps 2-4.

I use the Garmin Montana for off-road since it's easy to load .gpx files onto it and have different profile settings - i.e. - on road & off-road.

It's not the most intuitive gps but once you get used to it, it's a great unit. Much better than the stock unit, mine died and this replaced it.

I have no idea what's available for Mexico/S.A. though.

I use this program with a Garmin nuviCam:

HUNT Minnesota Public/Private Land Ownership Topo Maps for Garmin GPS | onXmaps

It's very easy to use and tells you what's public land and what isn't. Also has trails and logging roads.

They have them for most states, though I only have MN and WI as that's my assigned area.
