Who wants Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

Guys, not sure if anyone has done this but I started a petition to get Toyota to adopt Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. As we all know, this would not replace Entune for those that like it. Rather, it would give us Toyota owners the option of how we'd like to interface with our electronic data.

I actually had better luck just using a tablet as a head unit instead of Android auto. It's still new and lacking in features that I would like to see.

I just listen to AM... with my balance set to front.... with my fader set to right... and my equalizer set for all treble and no mid or bass. Sounds fine.

I could see this becoming a software add-on where you could choose whether you want Entune or your specified phone hooked up. I am considering the new Alpine iLX-107 as an upgrade to get my Apple Carplay. I only have the stock head unit without navigation and don't mind ripping it out though.

I have used CarPlay. While not perfect, it's better than Entune.

True. What annoyed me was my wife would pick up my phone to surf for music and it would take the GPS off screen. Maybe it was user error.

Yep, me too ... but what is this 'balance', 'fader', and 'equalizer' you speak of?

I don't normally do these, but in this case, I'm on board. The Entune system, in its current state, is simply unusable crap.

Yep AM / CB for traffic radio in the Hampton Roads / Richmond area, FM for Radio Hatteras when in Salvo for local stuff and use my phone with WAZE for navigating. 'Course nuthin' sounds good cause I have hearing aids.:violin:

The biggest complaint I've heard from someone that has Carplay is the lack of Waze integration. Seems like an oversight to not be able to simply mirror the screen for 3rd party apps. :noidea:

When I was shopping around for head units I saw many of them had both Apple and Android on them. I'm pretty sure the operating system is manufacturer specific, Apple and Android work like apps.

yeah that exists, but don't expect apple to start using google maps or waze in carplay

Not really too impressed with it. Honestly Im pretty happy with the upgraded nav that has the traffic guidance built in as well on the 15. I would like to do a carputer sometime in the future though

How did you get the tablet installed/plugged in to operate with your 4runner? Or does it operate completely separately with exception to audio?

It is unlikely to happen. Toyota will not give up its control over the vehicle electronics. It risks becoming akin to an OEM manufacturer for Android. Or that's what I've read regarding automakers rejection of android/apple software for infotainment.

Not Apple play but this unit was mentioned on several threads on TW. Basically mirrors your iPhone or android onto your entune screen. Kinda pricey though. There may be other less expensive alternatives.
