Its looking like rain this evening - The main reason I wanted to do this tonight was to enjoy the full moon - at the top of 4 Peaks, there is a round-about that over looks Roosevelt which is an amazing sight with a full moon. But, rain = clouds = no moonlight = no amazing views.

On another note - some guys from another 4Runner group I know are getting together tomorrow at the Scottsdale Pavilions tomorrow around 6 for a meet-n-greet, hang out, talk 4Runners, check out the other sweet rides there. Anyone interested in that? I'll be there around 6ish.

So big news.... I broke my offroading NEWB cherry with what I'm sure is a weak A$$ trail :laugh: but I had a blast doing it anyway.
But I've come away with some takeaways..... I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO LIFTING/TIRES/WHEELS ha....
We have some friends in from out of town and we decided to head up to Sedona and check out Devils bridge and hike out to the bridge itself. If any of you are familiar, it's basically 2 options, you park in a parking lot and hike in like a mile or more to the ACTUAL trail head then hike the trail to the canyons natural bridge or you DRIVE the offroad trail to the actual trail head before hiking. The trail over all had some pretty low key area's to just cruise with some rocks and what not, but there were a few parts that got pretty gnarly lol.
That said, it was SO MUCH FUN STILL, and the truck didn't skip a freaking beat. I'd bet I could have done it in 2WD but put it in 4 when I reached one of the rough spots. On the way back I went around a laredo cherokee that kept spinning out lol.
And running boards and all.... ONLY TAPPED ONCE! :-D But now I know what I want going forward. I want to get rid of these running boards for scrapers maybe with the single steps possibly, and then definitely looking forward to a lift and wheels/tires.

That said.... I'm really just wondering if I should just say the hell with it, and just go with these 5100's I keep seeing people discuss/review/install on here.... They seem to be solid/reliable/affordable/capable and do so while not killing the daily driver ride quality.
Yeaaaaaaaa..... Not gonna lie man lol.... Big rocks scare me a little ha. I love the offroading element, and I LOVE being off pavement, but this is my baby and daily driver, so I'm not trying to do BIG time offroading, In fear of bangin the 4runner up 
out: I'm not going to feel confident doing anything to much beyond super mild until I at the very least get some solid tires and a lift. And I would HATTTTTE to be "THAT GUY" That goes out with a handful of folks and ends up holding people back or throwing in the towel if I get to a spot I don't feel comfortable crossing lol... Boooo
True story ha... I had my buddy get out of the truck EVERY TIME I got worried about clearance.
P.S. I STILL have get a better understanding of whats all needed to lift these rigs.

Hehe... Yeah, you'll find out that your 4Runner is much more capable than your butt pucker will allow for... And don't worry so much about scrapes and dings on your plates underneath. That's what they're there for. I have some reeeally nice ones in my gas tank skid!!!

Hahahaha yea dude, my pucker level is so weak :doh: When I tapped my running boards I was like "OHHHH NOOO, I HOPE EVERYTHING IS OK" lol

Thats what we all said at first though - then you do 2 or 3 mild trips and realize both you and your rig can handle way more. Spend time in the dirt with other wheelers and you'll see what you're missing and it will escalate from there. My 06 is the daily driver, but I took it to Sedona and did everything at Broken Arrow except the stairs. But now that got new/bigger tires on it I can't wait to go back and redeem myself.
We're setting up a trip for the 15th - I believe that is going to be New River to 7 Springs to Sheep Bridge to Bloody Basin then home via the 17 - will be kind of a long day, but worth every minute of it - I know a few little side trails to check out some cool stuff. All very mild but very scenic.

Anyone know of any less known trails in the northwest valley? I love the backway to crown king, wouldn't mind setting up a run (wife wants to see it) and done a few others. I have a crazy itch (nothing contagious) to get out on a trail everyday. Hopefully the rest of the AZ T4R guys could keep me updated on runs or meetup's, Ill definitely make them if Im not working.

There is a 50-50 chance I'll head out on Sunday, depends on how much I can get done between now and then and if it rains between now and then.
There is a run loosely planned for the 15th - we are either going to meet at the 17 & Table Mesa Rd, or at the 101 and Princess/Pima to go check out the Verde River Sheep Bridge then take Bloody Basin out to the 17.
You're more than welcome come along, and keep checking back on this thread for upcoming trips.
