I’ve been meaning to start this thread for a while now. I’m wondering who’s 4Runner caught your eye early on, and most influenced your own rig’s build? And how close are you to achieving their level of mods?
I’ll get started. Here’s my story: In late 2005, I decided I wanted to trade my ’94 Pathfinder in on a black 2002 sport edition, because I wanted to upgrade, and loved the look of them. I finally found and bought my 4Runner in early 2006. Shortly after, on a whim, I decided to search the internet to see if there were any 4Runner clubs. I initially found YotaTech.
I started reading thread after thread. I was mesmerized, and in awe of what I was seeing. I had no idea that guys were modifying their 4Runners to such a high degree. I was especially interested in the offroading mods. I had always enjoyed offroading my Pathfinder on forest trails, sand dunes, etc, but it was completely stock. I had never considered a lift, bigger tires, etc, but now I was hooked.
One rig that really caught my eye was another 2002 black sport edition. It was beautiful, and built to just the right level of mods for my taste. The owner’s username was Calrocks. I haven’t seen him post in a long time, and am not sure if he is still around or not. (I hope he doesn’t mind me using his name or his pictures.) Here are a few pics I saved long ago of his rig:
Of course I didn’t copy all of his mods exactly. I put my own spin on things. After modding my truck for the last 6 years, I feel I am getting close to the level of awesomeness that I first saw in Calrocks truck. Although there are a few major mods I still need to do, mainly a winch, 5.29 gears, and an ARB locker in the rear. Here are a few pics of my truck as it currently sits:
You can defiinitely see the similarities between the two.
So here’s to you Calrocks, wherever you might be. Thanks for draining my bank account for the last 6 years. Jk
So share your story about how you got inspired for your build. If possible show pics of your inspiration, and your truck’s progress. How do they compare?
