Moment of honesty here, I feel like my knowledge base is pretty well rounded when it comes to our trucks, but am I correct in my thinking here?

4.7 is lower than 2.28...right?

Correct. Toyota chain drive T-cases have a 2.57:1 reduction. That means that the input shaft of the t case has to rotate 2.57 times in order for the output shaft to do one rotation. A 4.7 reduction means that the input rotates 4.7 times for every one rotation of the output. Meaning you're going to be crawling much slower at the same engine RPM.

Dual cases multiply the reduction so for example, my truck has the 2.57 stock case and a 4.7 gear case. So the reduction on that is 2.57 x 4.7=12.08 reduction.
