Who's on Duratracs?

Seems like there are so few of us on the Wrangler Duratracs. I feel like we need to form up a splinter group.

As of tomorrow, our setup will be 265s on BORA 1.25" spacers. The rig is a non lifted 2017 TRD Off Road Premium with KDSS. The spacers are to satisfy the visual gap from the C4 Fab slider kickouts we mounted and I've seen some of you run 265s this way so were going for it.

Were going to take these from flatlander Illinois out to the Rockies and back in December. I recall my winter break commutes from decades ago back and forth to Colorado State from south of Chicago and some times the parts in between were the most difficult. There will be mountain passes and if the weather permits some easy trail exploration outside of Breckenridge and Fairplay, maybe.

I started this thread to provide foul weather and long tour feedback on this setup, since few of us keep the truck stock in the suspension area or run stock sized Duratracs. I'll post before and afters of the setup after the installation tomorrow, and post results here as we go on our first adventure with the rig.

What load rating did you go with? The stock SL? Or C or E? I have been eyeballing duratracs.

65k on my first set of E rated tires and no, none, zero complaints. Not the best on ice, but that's to be expected, even with the generous siping. Keep them rotated at every oil change and you'll have years of traction at all four corners. Enjoy the road trip.

Ran duratracs on my previous Jeep Wrangler JKU, and now on my T4R. Love them, but they'rea bit lousy in rain as my tires tend to spin often from a light or entering a highway from a curved on-ramp. Otherwise, they're amazing in the snow, and I can attest to that since I live in Snow Capital of the Northeast (Syracuse NY) Love them though! Goodluck on your trip.

I think you won't be disappointed with Duratracs. I have them for past 6 years they got me through mud, rocks, show, ice storms with no problems. They are not magic of course and you still need to apply your brain when going off the beaten path.

Let us know how they do. I almost bought a set of SL rated 255/75s. Near stock weight while being slightly taller. They seem like a great tire.

Ended up with C-rated Coopers instead.

You'll enjoy them. I had the D rated 285s up until this past spring and they were great on and off road. They didn't make them in a 295 (that I could see) and I wanted E rated because of the rocks at the places we ride. I'm definitely missing their lighter weight.

I have run 3 sets of 285/70/17 Duratracs... absolutely zero complaints. Just be sure to rotate them every oil change and if they need to be balanced be sure it is done via road force balancing.

I can't agree with everyone else here, I've had two sets of 285/70 duratracs, and if you actually wheel your rig, you'll soon realize how soft the sidewalls are. I think at one point I blew 2 tires that had just a couple thousand miles on them. Just my 2 cents.

The Results!

So here is the follow up to the install with pictures. I love the new beefy look of the truck. The spacers really make the tires fill the wheel wells, and that comes at a price. The mud flaps had to come off and the front bumper needed to be trimmed after the fender liner was re drilled and moved forward. Rick made quick work of it so there is no rubbing at all when driving aggressively on the street, lock to lock both directions. I think there is a way to modify the mudflap, I will look into it when I have some time as I had to jet outta there for an appointment.

Here is the final fitment. Looks great, tires are quieter than expected. They are all at 35 lbs and I am thinking of taking them up to 38 across the board to see how they feel. Very plush right now and I agree, the sidewalls "feel" soft. Love the look of the OWLs with the white truck. Let it snow!

BTW, BORA makes a .75" spacer that MIGHT mean no trimming but we didnt fit them to see.

Seems odd they didn't offer the OWL across the size range. Actually, Im not sure you can get them in 275 70 R17 at all.

I loved my duratracs right up to about the 60k point, then they got loud. my second set had two get out of round. on BFG KOs now, but i for damn sure wish they looked as good as the D'tracs.

huh, always seemed to me that Duratracs were literally the most popular tire guys threw on to replace the OEM rubber.

maybe that's changing a bit since the launch of the new BFG KO2, which was widely regarded as a (long overdue) redesign in response to the popularity of the Duratracs.
