Who's run Toyo Open Country M/T's in all weather? Bonus if you've also had Duratracs

I think I squeezed the whole question into the title, but to recap I'm going to be switching out my Duratrac's for Toyo Open Country tires. They obviously have a few options:

M/T Mud tire and I question their traction in the snow.

C/T said to do great in the snow, but how do they do out of it, and why do they have to look so pedestrian? lol

R/T What I would probably buy if they had them in a 265/70/17.

We don't live in the snow, but we do go play and usually by ourselves in the middle of nowhere. I've had the Falken Wildpeaks that got stuck in slush, and I've had the BFG AT's that were better, but than the Falkens but not by much. I like the Duratrac's traction in the snow, and would like to be on or above that level. Anyone who's run the Toyo's and Duratracs in multiple climates care to chime in? It would be much appreciated.

I’ve run 3 sets of toyo CT 275/70/17e rated. Love them, good tire, they last forever. One set not studded. The last 2 studded. They are awesome studded. Just order the 4th set. We get a lol of icy weather here in Nova Scotia Canada. And a good amount of snow.

And the MT are fine in snow but suck in icy weather as do most!

I have the AT2s. I like them a lot. They're a little noisy after wearing in for a cpl months but not as bad as other guy's trucks with mud tires.

They're very durable, no worries about punctures on sharp desert rocks.

In AZ it has been raining so in wet weather I can say they're pretty good, but I did have an oversteer moment the other day that was unexpected when the rears broke loose in a turn. Wasn't goosing it so they must have just been cold and I'm positive there was a lot of oils on the road as it was the first few hours of rain after a long dry spell.

Yeah studded isn't even a consideration lol. I'm tempted to buy the CT's for the trip and then pick up a second set of wheels and some MT's for after, but my wallet is less tempted. Have you ever run the Duratracs for a comparison?

I know that scenario all too well. There is one curve on my morning commute right outside of a landfill entrance where the trucks are always leaking hydraulic fluid. First rain always has me feeling like a drifting champ. Doesn't matter which vehicle, or what tires are on it!

I had Duratracs (265/75/16) for about 25K miles, they make the 'waawaawaa' noise starting at 35-40 on up, cannot be balanced above 67-70mph (things will shake inside at highway speeds - same vehicle is smooth as glass at 85-90 with Michelins) yet do grip offroad on loose soil, sand, mud, grass, rock. Never experience anything negative on wet roads, good grip there.

On roads they require more turning effort at the steering wheel and don't feel near as limber as ATs from say Michelin or Yokos. No experience in snow yet I've read good things about them on that surface.

Discount Tire will let you 'try' whichever tire out for a couple thousand miles and return for full credit towards others if they don't please you. Luck. :cowboy:

I'm on my second set of Duratrac's and know the noise well, but have never had balance issues myself. My truck doesn't spend a ton of time at high speeds, but its been into the 90's at least a few times on the Durtracs and hasn't had any issues. I appreciate the info on the other tires, but this is a Toyo or stick with the Duratrac's situation only.

Oh yeah not trying to push what i settled on, just what little info i have on the duratracs. They sure do look Good. and yes very smooth for me anyway up to about 67. DT said not to expect that tire to balance well above 70.

Oh I didn't mention they seem to wear well. DT just offered to give me 3/4 of the purchase price towards other tires after nearly 25K miles, so couldn't pass that up. They could have gone twice that with legal tread left.

I only got a flat once out on rough, jagged, large stationary rock I couldn't see well because of tall grass so may have hit a rock at a bad angle, quick deflation, otherwise a tough tire. I do like Toyos though, if similar in price, I'd give those a vote! Luck. :cowboy:
