Different owners. Multiple forums exist for most models.

I'm on both as well as i8mud and yotatech
Each of these sites has it's value and a slightly different user-base.
In general I come here first.

Different forums on the same general topic is quite common, Mazda, Acura Radar Detector forums are all in multiples.
I usually prefer to just pick one, but sometimes forums begin to degrade over time in content, speed, spam, members.... So people look elsewhere.
I prefer this forum, but I am sure many are also on the other forum too. And with how slow and buggy this forum is becoming we may have no other choice to go to another forum.
Or we may decide as a community to make a new one of, by, and for the people. Then there will be 3.

Which forum has the better mechanics?
This one is great for 300 repetitive posts about which leveling kits, 285 tires, and "builds", and people that should have bought a highlander.
The 3rd gen people were/are good here, maybe as the 5th gen gets older the signal to noise ratio will change.

Thanks for the belly laugh.
Tomorrow I get the wonderful experience of troubleshooting the push button auto track NV 246 transfer case in my Suburban K2500 with my wife’s no issue 320K mile 4Runner sitting right next to it. Transfer case is brand new reman and I can only get 4Hi with the light still flashing at the button. Actuator was new just two weeks ago and verified working before installed, now it is stuck in 4WD. New encoder motor. New Transfer Case Control Module. The Toyota never throws any of this pain at me.

I guess it's testimony to the reliability of the 4Runner, or the fact that there is not enough age on the platform, or some combination thereof. My chevy Suburban has 236K miles on it and seems like I've always got something to work on. Not so with the Toyota.

Similar, had an 85 Jimmy S15 that went 285K but at about 80K there was always some thing needed done. Now on my 5th T4R and that has not been the case. The one I lifted did have the CV problem that is mentioned in the car care nut video in this thread, but that is it. Transfer case did die on one but that was at 265k with lots of that in deep soft sand on the beaches of the NC Outer Banks, so lots of stress there.

The other forum has alot of the banned members that went full internet Karen on here from 2017 to 2021, that now reside in the other forum.
This platform is pretty old, there isn't exactly alot of new info.... You can only discuss things so much before it gets old. What was old is now new, and vise versa because of new 4runner owners,
I wouldn't say they are more active. I mean the current hot topic over their is oil viscosities, which was interesting in the beginning, now the armchair experts have taken over, and now it is a contest to see who can write the longest post while explaining as little as possible.
This forum has WAY more technical information archived. It's almost to a fault because it kind of kills new discussions.
The regulars are pretty cool here, they just don't tolerate BS as well, and downright hilarious when we start pooping on each other.
