Why do I NOT LIKE the 5th Generation?

exterior wise they can be modified to look ok.

But a 4Runner looks more 'sporty/rugged' from the factory and the interior matches this practical approach.

That said if you find a good deal on a GX460 and go with black interior instead of that luxury beige/ivory or whatever...

Needs a Satoshi. LOL

Oh, wait...

Loss of Torsen, boatlike and boxy feel, poor interior quality and layout, useless nav, top of the line touchscreen in 2006, poor forward visibility, terrible turn radius, 30 thousand plus mangos in cost... what’s not to like?

My biggest 'dislike' on the 5th gen has to do with the way Toyota decided to package the the different trims and options. They don't sell what I want. I dislike the look of the Limited, with all that extra plastic down low, as well as the silly 20" wheels, yet the Limited has a ton of features that I want....like Torsen diff, auto climate, blind spot, rear parking sensors. I wish they would just offer a 'limited package' to add to a SR5 or Trail .... or even better, go back to offering individual options. My ideal 5th gen would be a base Trail with the following added.. Torsen diff, power passenger seat, auto climate, auto lights, BSM, parking sensors, and keyless access/push button start.

I liked my 3rd Gen and I still think build wise it was the best looking 4Runner. I prefer the 4th for getting my ass out of trouble and crossing terrain which the 3rd Gen did not have the lower center of gravity for...imho.

I can't get my head around the Lexus....sorry but hey...that's me.

If I could afford a GX fixed up the way I wanted with some off-road flavor, I would have taken it over a 5th gen. My friend has a GX and he wheels it everywhere I go, awesome truck, really no different than my 4th. That said, I don’t like the GX460 when compared to the GX 470.

Owning both, If I had to choose between my 4th and 5th gen and was forced to sell one, I would actually keep my 4th gen to be honest. The wife shares the same opinion.

Completely unbiased opinion.... I agree that they went a little too agressive.
It also feels like EVERY 5th gen has at least a few mods, and they seem cookie-cutter to me. The iphone of 4runners.

That aside, I think we can all agree - WHERE'S THE 6TH GEN???

I owned 2 x 4th gens before I switched to my 5th gen, and there are certain things that I miss about my 4th gens, but overall I'm very happy with my 5th gen. The newer bells and whistles are great and I really enjoy the "aggressive" look as described by others in here. I still prefer the look of the 4th gens just a bit but I'm biased since I owned one for 12 years. Overall though I'm very happy with the upgraded premium cabin and interior in my 5th gen and that was the biggest upgrade for me. The cabin and additional room is night and day to my 4th gens and it's extremely comfortable inside, still miss my 4th gens now and then, but very happy with my new truck as well

No title

If my 2007 4runner sport was totaled I would buy a 5th gen for its reliability but would feel like I was down grading. I like the quality of the 4th gen interior and the torsen diff. came standard. I'm 6'3'' and although the 5th gen is larger it seems tighter when I sit in it. Not sure why guys bash the 4th gen. An off road model was even offered in 2009.

My "Beast" has pulled my ass out a couple times traveling to and in Alaska with 4lo, Torsen, and the 4th Gen's near perfect center of gravity.

My 97 (which I loved) was, -face it- , top heavy and 5th has always looked "off" to me. I admit, obviously, many go off road in 5th Gens and are perfectly happy doing so.

But when you're in a ditch up to your right head light and you go to 4lo and reverse and it pulls you out the 1st time, I figure the 4th Gen is built with me in mind and perfect for the kind of lifestyle I have.

Both are capable 4wd 4r ! So whatever floats it :yield: both mine get me there & back !:heh:
