Why do threads get closed in the 5th gen section?

I hope you guys who wanted 1engineer out of here are happy. Be careful what you wish for.

In fairness, I don't think anyone wanted him out of here. I don't particularly agree with his approach but I still think he does a decent job. Information if excellently curated and accessible here.

No worries...it can't possibly look any worse than the 5th :twitch:

Them's fightin' words! :flame:

I think the consensus is that the 3rd gen is the best-looking, then the bloated 5th, and lastly the feminine 4th gen.

Now git back to the 4th gen forum where you belong!:hand:

Welp, I hope all you whiners are happy now. This forum was actually useful due to the efforts of 1E. You are why we can't have nice things.

Maybe we should have an official "what's that noise thread" or merge all the existing ones together?

I find it crazy that you honestly spent 5-6 months searching for solutions, and then again, several hours, looking at how to fix your problem instead of starting a new thread.

Were you seriously THAT against starting a new thread? You don't feel that maybe after an hour or two you'd be justified in starting a new thread?

The more I think about it, it's rather comical. Maybe you were too frightened to start a new thread out of fear that the mod-god would come down with the warning hammer when your "questions has already been answered in another thread." Seriously.. It's pretty bad if that's what point this forum is at..

I just got my 4runner and joined a month ago, and coming from someone who has modded a lot of vehicles in my life, I have had a ton of questions. Fortunately, with some searching I have been able to answer most all of them. I will probably start a build thread soon as a way to document the build and ask specific opinions, but if I had a problem that was as severe as yours, and I searched as much as you said, I certainly wouldn't shy away from starting a thread about it...

Why would I start yet another thread when there were new ones showing up every day asking about "what's that noise"? Most of those threads went unanswered or the OP got blasted for not "using the search"? I have a few 1-post threads out there that I never got back to that never got shut down by 1engineer. I actually thought he was doing a good job, and I never felt threatened. So, no, I wasn't afraid to start my own thread. I just didn't see the point when everyone else was already doing it.

The noise itself wasn't severe at all. It was just annoying. My wife couldn't even hear it until she drove with me out to South Carolina two months ago.

After that trip, I was determined to find out. So I spent one day of thoroughly searching and researching through threads I probably read months earlier. I responded to a thread that had highlighted a problem that might be related to the problem I was having, and that finally landed me on the answer.

When there are hundreds of threads asking about "that noise" then the threads become noise. Besides, there are so many things that can cause noises on a vehicle, and describing them online is a crap shoot at best.

...Oh, Welcome and Congrats on the new 4Runner!

No one is an angel. Have you finished your shrine yet? lol.

He helped me once or twice and once or twice he pissed me off. It's hard to know someone over text. Not sure how many people here started a relationship over text but shit can go sideways really fast when you try to read into something not knowing the person, inflection, etc. Anyways...

All forums have to have a balance but you can't b*tch and moan about starting new threads or adding to older threads that have been dormant for longer than some imaginary threshold that should never be crossed. I get some people have been on here a long time and might be tired of seeing a repeat question but if it bothers YOU so much log off and go do something else with your time. If this is your ONLY hobby then have fun with that.

I've asked my fair share of a stupid question or two and I would bet money that most of the seniors in here...when they were new did the same stupid shit.. But hey, perhaps all the T4R Odin Fathers started out as forum Gods so who knows. :horn:

Miss the point much?

We all started out knowing damn near nothing, like everybody else. We all were given the gift of having others help us no matter how stupid the question. Most of us happily and generously paid it forward to the newer members. Some of us have become good friends and many more became good acquaintances.

This place was always a refreshing island from the usual internet BS. But the entire atmosphere changed about a year or two ago as the 4R became much more popular and our ranks grew that we started getting the butt hurt crowd. Every time I see a whiny crybaby post I look at the join date. Yep! Same pattern over and over and over again.

All of you were welcomed as friends. All of you benefited by those who have been here longer, just as we benefited. All of you had the exact same right to be here as the oldest member. But a very few of you just can’t help yourself with your BS. And unfortunately because of the very few of you babies the vast majority of the decent new guys will suffer because of YOUR crap childish entitled snowflake attitude.

To paraphrase Joseph de Maistre, we have the forum we deserve. And until WE collectively want to make it better it will continue to be just like every other idiot forum out there. :smash:

...I just started a new thread that has never been discussed before on any non-Jeep forum...

It's not just the noobs.

There are a handful of old-timers who constantly ***** about how things are moderated. Some who are butthurt that they aren't allowed to get into political pissing matches on an automotive forum, and others who think this place will somehow self-police.

I am a firm believer in keeping politics OFF of this forum. It has nothing to do with our rigs. I don't care about anyone's politics, and no one cares about mine. Arguing or discussing politics here isn't going to solve anything, and it is generally unhelpful in so many ways to other forum members.

There are political forums for that kind of thing.

...no forum self-polices...

So... any volunteers to be the next 5th Gen Mod?

I give a piece of advice.... make a new account to be the mod... TELL NO ONE.

Ohhhh. Found this after the "I'm leaving" thread. Stupid Tapatalk. Wow. How thankless can people be? He did this for free and did a good job with so many members on here. Hats off to you 1engineer.

I think the popular politics/religion/etc. sub forum would be good here. Then people could banter all they want there. It could be called "The Fire Pit" or "Mudding" lol.

I think what he is talking about.. Is the off-topic sub forum.. (the place to discuss non 4runner related...) I only ventured over there once and I think I remember the moderator deleting threads that had anything about politics mentioned...

I don't come here to discuss politics either..but if people want to rant in off-topic.. I don't care because I will never see it LOL

I feel a bit guilty as being the cause of all this drama..

It was not my intention to push 1E out. My main intention was to get him to see that topics don't need to be taboo (like the supercharger thread) just because the old timers don't want to hear it and are tired of seeing it mentioned. They can just ignore the banter if it bothers them...

I really thought about using PM.. but then thought.. No, he needs to see how others perceive the moderation. That is why I created the thread.

I'm very tempted to delete this thread now just to stop the direction of it...

Less drama and more truck talk, please.....:lalala:

I think 1E was on his way out before this thread.

No matter what... no mod will ever make everyone happy. It's just impossible.

:offtopic:

It is possible for the OP to close his/her own threads.

I'm just staying, it's gone on long enough and Perhaps it's time we let this one go and have the OP close it........
:peace:

I guess not.. I just tried... can't see a way to delete or close the thread. I thought you could delete your own thread, but kind of makes sense....
