Why do threads get closed in the 5th gen section?

I guess while people are expressing concerns I'll say one.
While I agree people should search before asking, I can't believe the amount of backlash and flack people get around here for starting new threads. Props to the site because the search function does work extremely well compared to AR15.com, but sometimes my exact answer can't be found but I never start a new thread because I know people will hammer me.

I'd say keep it open. No need to have 8 of them but one would be fine.

Your posts only go one way and that is as a mod, not as a member. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. It is very clear based on your history that threads you move, merge, or close are not done consistently. You also do a fare share of belittling in some of your posts to members with the same account you "mod" from. You are correct when you say that as a mod you will piss off some. I think the issue is that as a mod you piss off a ton more people than you make normal. If you want the privilege of being able to post as a member then you should make a second account and not tell us who you are.

I don't agree with everything our mods do but i do respect the position...... Thanks Greg for doing a thankless job. Regardless of if we always agree or not my hats off to you for stepping up and helping this place out.

I don't think the super charger thread in itself needed to be locked on content but based on my own posts in it and many others we sort of "sealed its fate" - for that I take ownership

Having summited Everest, I would much rather climb it naked while receiving a battery acid enema than moderate a large public forum such as this.

Dealing with dip shits that walk in, have been a member for less than a month, or with but a few posts, start posting crap that has already been said/answered dozens of times or just plain not reading, it gets annoying, that's why people get brackish. Seen it, often.
Example:
Best One Picture thread, it is a cool thread, yes the mod happened to start it. The rule is post your best one picture, no comments, no questions, just your best one picture. For the most part it works. Then someone drops in out of nowhere and says "Shit those are cool wheels where' you get them", "bro that's a great pic where was it", and it turns into a shit show and no more cool pics, just a bunch of banter.
Curious, climbed Everest have you? Modding a board is not physically hard, no, dealing with brats constantly is, this place gets like kindergarten before nap time... a lot. Just saying, it's got some personality that's for sure :madgrin:

Delete the offending posts and let the thread keep going. That is much better than what we currently get which is a mod talking down to members, relevant threads moved to another section they should not be in, or threads closed purely based on the opinions of 1 moderator.
This community could be much better if it wasn't ruled by the opinions of 1, but the collective opinions of us all. How many of us report posts that are truly out of line with a thread's purpose? I admit that I do not, but maybe we should in order to give the mod an idea of content that does not fit with our norms.

Yeah, I am actually getting ready to retire from the mod world. It truly is a thankless job and I don't do well with people who just cant understand basic STEM subjects. I have a guy who wants to buy my 4Runner (I didn't have it for sale) and is willing to pay top dollar. I have been thinking of getting something different and the way I see it, I can make a lot of folks happy to leave here, get away from 4Runners and do something else.

Since everyone is giving their thoughts on this, I'd like to chime in as well.
I'm okay with the mod doing what he does. He seems pretty objective as an unpaid moderator. He's only human for goodness sake. Things don't get cluttered, no politics are bickered about, and this section of the forum, more or less, stays on topic.
You shouldn't be afraid of asking questions/making a new thread on the internet. Explain how you couldn't find it while searching and then politely ask for some help. There are a lot of new people who just come to this forum and demand answers.

1E did take a poll in the thread to see who wanted it closed. 1E also doesn't do things just to be an a-hole.
1E said the thread would re-open when the SC becomes available. There is seven years worth of SC threads to read through. All it does is get our hopes up then we're let down when nothing happens. It's all hearsay at this point. The IG Magnuson photo didn't even have a SC in it. Just an open hood. That's not good enough.
I've been here since 2012 (my account had to be re-made). I have never been be-littled or bossed around. I READ threads that are relevant to what I'm looking for, I try to act like a sane, respectful human being.... unless someone purposely pushes my buttons.
If you don't like it here, or the way you're treated..... It's really easy.... delete your account and don't come back.

Yet you expect others to read every post before commenting. In fact, I believe you gave me a warning on my very first post on the forum for not doing such..

First, thanks for devoting your time to be a Mod.
Second, if you didn't always come across as the grumpiest person in the room, often for no good reason, you wouldn't always be pissing people off.
Just my opinion.

1E sees black and white, no grey. That's what makes him a good Mod. No Mod can please everybody- especially the whiney babies that get on here and can't handle a little direction from the mgmt.
I appreciate the work 1E does- I've known him quite a while and his heart is in it.
If/when he goes my prediction is that things will be much worse.

You may well be right. And understand that my comments above weren't intended to be disrespectful. I wouldn't do the job myself, mainly because I'd be pissed off all the time for having to deal with the crap.
1E has my sincere respect for dedicating the time. My comment was coming more from the realization that took me 50 years to get to - life's short. If something brings you more grief than joy, you should seriously consider walking away from it, and dedicating that time to something that makes you happy.

Just from my short time here, I think your leaving would be a real loss to this forum.
For many years before getting my 5th gen I was a member on Pirate4x4...and the same BS went on there--"the mean mod said this, the mean mod said that, the mean mod deleted my crap-loaded thread, waa, waa" . My point is, every forum needs someone to keep it on course. IMO, having a forum "run by all the people here" will quickly bloat up and become useless for real info.
