Why does Lexus have a 1000 miles service?

That 1,000 mile service is worth probably $150 to the dealer.
Bottomline, it is a big money maker for the dealer. 'If these rich people buy a 4Runner with an 'L' on the grill, we'll charge 'em more because they will think it is better and required.'
Thats that great legendary Lexus service they are famous for. You pay for it.

That's why you pay extra for the L on the grill, it comes with a dealership network not a stealership network.

I've owned 3 Lexus and now on my 4th Toyota. I agree that the Lexus service is a wonderful experience but you pay for it and they also make mistakes (forgot to put oil in my wifes Lexus when I lived in Atlanta). Also at my present location the Lexus and Toyota dealerships use the same service area
They have the service advisor for Lexus at one entrance and Toyota at another and separate waiting rooms. But they take the cars back to the same mechanic's. Lexus claims that they never have a oil jocky do the oil and filter changes on the Lexus it is alway a Mechanic that does the Lexus, that maybe true but that is where they went wrong on my wifes Lexus, mechanic was multi-tasking and forgot to add the oil. I think I would reather have the oil jockey that does it day in and day out and does not do anything else. Plus I always check the oil and filter before I drive away.aj884runner

Always checking your oil after a service is a good idea. They may have just changed your oil to someone elses old oil.

No I picked it up. They bring it around after they wash the car and then call you out to get it. That also bothered me since it had to be running with no oil the whole time they were taking it through the wash. I then got in and started it and drove off the lot. The oil light came on the minute I turned into traffic. Had to go around the block to get back to the dealer. The car started smoking at start-up at 120K miles, luckly the toyota dealer uses one person that all they do is oil and filter changes so I doubt if they will forget to put the oil in the 4runner. I think sometimes Lexus goes over board with what they are trying to do. It makes no sense to have a high $$ mechanic do the oil change along with the other service items on a Lexus. Have the oil change guy (expert) do all of the oil changes and then move it to the mechanic for the other work. JMHO
My friend had the exact thing happen to him, he went to the Nissan dealer for an oil change at 5k, 1st and only oil change and they gave him back the Pathfinder and he pulls out and the light goes on, but to U-turn on the highway and get back to the dealer is a 5 mile trip doin the highway speed of 65 but he never made it and the engine gave out.
They gave him a Qx4 cause the VQ was on back order and needed 6 months before it got to the states.
So did they give you a new engine and what Lexus was it.

They claimed the engine was not hurt and they paid for the 90K mile service and warranted the ES300 for another 30K miles against any oil related problems. It started smoking after the 30K miles was up and I had moved to Missouri from Atlanta. Glad they didn't do it to my LS400 because it only had 35K miles on it at the time where my wifes ES300 had 90K miles. I should of stopped around the block and noticed the wrench and no oil and then just kept driving. They would of had to replace the engine. Doubt it would ever happen to again since I check the oil and the filter before I ever leave the dealship.
