Why does my legacy garnish look like crap?

hey folks,

I’ve tried both the OEM and an aftermarket legacy garnish and both of them have this massive gap on the side. has anyone found a solution? it’s like there isn’t enough curvature to stick on the ends.

It looks like the adhesive tape when they were put on grabbed before the face of the garnish was against the bumper plastic.

The top and bottom of the "C" shaped trim piece have the sticky tape. You have to almost hold them up and down/away from the grill until you have the "TOYOTA" script portion seated as far back as it can go. At that point you can release the trim and firmly seat it.

Alternatively, you can just lift the protective red backing off the tape line on just one corner (top and bottom), get the piece set where you want it, and gently pull the tape holding the part in place. Firmly press down on the top and bottom and you should be good to go.

I'd try pulling the garnish back up carefully, removing the old double stick tape, and retaping/reinstalling it. 3M extreme hold double sided should be what you need.

In the instructions you're supposed to leave most of the backing on the adhesive strip on the top of the garnish, only pulling back enough so that once seated, you can pull the backing off, finally exposing the adhesive. Otherwise the adhesive is going to stick before you fully press the garnish on all the way.

This seems very likely. In the instructions you're supposed to leave most of the backing on the adhesive strip on the top of the garnish, only pulling back enough so that once seated, you can pull the backing off, finally exposing the adhesive. Otherwise the adhesive is going to stick before you fully press the garnish on all the way.

Follow the instructions that come with the garnish and you should be fine. I'd try to gently remove and replace with new double sided 3M adhesive. And follow the OEM directions.
