Why Does no Diagram Show this Part!?

My '94 4Runner is having brake issues (really hard to press). I've replaced the brake booster and master cylinder, checked the rear wheel cylinders, verified 16 Hg vacuum from engine to booster, verified check valve working correctly (and tested bypassed).

I was tracing the brake lines and found a part I don't recognize, nor could I find any documentation on (either in my repair manual or online). The brake lines and power steering are connected to it. What is this:

It's located under the battery and power steering pump.

Awesome! Do you guys think the ABS could be responsible for my hard brakes? I'm running out of parts to replace, lol.

Also, out of curiosity, why does the power steering seem to be connected to it?

Thanks for the help! :)

no hydralic assist = hard brakes

Had the same issue- changed out all the brake parts- no help.. new power steering pump solved the hard brake issue. Really!

Dang! My power steering has been making noises despite not being low on fluid. Hadn't gotten around to replacing it yet. I think you many nailed down my problem.

I'm on my way to the auto parts store. I'll report back if that fixes it. Thanks so much!
