You sound like every OPSEC brief our S2 ever gave us. And I don't disagree.

You never know what could provide the "missing puzzle piece" for the individual attempting to gain access to your info.

But anyone driving down the road can see your plate. It's not personal information. It's a public identifier.

All these posts stating that they can easily have your address from your plate are just not true.

If a hacker wants your address or name they don't need your license plate to get it. And besides that, what keep someone from just driving down your street and getting your plate number AND your home address? Absolutely nothing. This information is all but worthless.
 
Say thief to be have exactly the same vehicle he rolled at last wheeling, All he need to do is jump on forum, using search to find vehicle of his desire and by lisence plate find it`s location.
You vehicle doesn`t have to be newer model, ask any insurance adjusted why some models cost much more to insure than others. he has to switch parts and it`s now his and you gave it away yourself.
Much more productive than cruising roads looking for exact vehicle he wants to steal.

Very true and if I may add to this the record information held by the DMV is not always factual. For instance my vehicles are registered to my address. I live with my girlfriend and keep my vehicles at her address. If someone were to want them, all they will find is a empty driveway and mostly empty house.

Just like with me the records often show the previous address someone lived at such as apartments. Without a GPS tracker it can be very hard to find a persons home. If they want your vehicle, they'll take it. Or try and jack your stuff up.

You're trying to tell us that if someone wanted to steal a 4Runner it would be easier to find one on an internet forum than to find one driving on the streets? Kinda hard to read that gibberish.

You live in the Denver area and you've not noticed that there are 4Runners everywhere???

Any vehicle, not just 4runner. Yes it would be much easier and more choices.
In motorcycles world it`s epidemic.
 
Personally I dont care if its out there. Sure you can use the information to make it easier to steal, but if someone really wants it they can get it, but for me I live in the middle of nowhere. If you find the house nice job, but stealing the truck? good luck
 
Fact is though you can cover your plates all you want. It's out there in plain view. And if s real thief wanted your car. Nothing will stop him from getting it.
 
I'm just going to take my tag off. If I get pulled over I'll just make the case to the nice officer I don't want my 4Runner or my identity stolen.

Actually, that would only be a violation if he entered a place where the neighbor had a reasonable expectation of privacy (REP).

If the vehicle was parked outside on the street, and the OP was lawfully allowed to be in a position to see/take a photo of the vehicle, it is not a privacy violation.

Google does it simply because it's their policy, they are not required to do so. If vehicle registration plate photos by Google is a "privacy violation", then photos of everyone's residence with the house number would be as well.
