Why is 2019 deemed 6th gen?

Not sure why 2019 4Runners are considered 6th gen but Toyota hasn't redesigned the vehicle yet nor does it look like 2020 is shaping up any better than 2019. So shouldn't folks go back to 5th gen forum?

Love the enthusiasm though...

2019 4Runners are of course not 6th gen - there is no 6th gen yet and also the announced 2020 4Runners will be 5th gen.

Someone messed up when creating the 6th gen section and wrongly added the 2019 tag. Also the 5th gen is missing the 2018 tag...

People posting under this section about 5th gen models probably just don’t know any better.

Yeah, the 6th gen section makes little sense. Let it be announced first with some factual info from Toyota, then...the talk will start!

Because if Obama taught us one thing, it's that despite having hairy nuts or a 4.0L multiport v6, one can identify as whatever the F we feel like - WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
 
I really wish this entire 6th gen section would be deleted, cleared or locked until official confirmation of a 6th gen exists.. rumors, speculation and mostly false info here do nothing to add to the database of actually good and helpful information this forum has provided for a long time

Agree this doesn't make any sense... [MENTION=5653]admin[/MENTION] any insight to why a 6th gen was created without a hmmm 6th gen? :)
 
What ya'll don't realize is that the 6th gen has actually been out since 2014. Go look at a 2013, then a 2014, and tell me somethimg didn't change there. I think Toyota pulled a fast one on us! :madgrin::wacko::lmao:

A new generation model comes with a major body change and/or engine. The change is only minor in the 5th Gen. Just like the change on the 4th Gen from a 2005 then a 2006. 4th Gen 2006-2009 changes, front bumper, rear bumper, grill, head lights, plastic door cladding, tail lights, transmission, more horse power and spoiler. So does that mean the new 4Runner is actualy a 7th Gen?

Makes me think is a 2nd Gen and 3rd Gen the same since they kind of look alike? :ohwell:
 
I get the 2019 is 5th gen, you can just go sit in one. But did they already release the 2020 specs? Link please!
 
Before there was a 6th gen section, people complained about wanting one so they could discuss the speculation/ideas around the next gen 4Runner.

Now they created it and people complain about having a place to speculate and share ideas around the 6th gen.

I don't know this for sure, but the forum software might have required that a model year is appended as a sub forum, for the creation of a new forum section (6th gen) - that would explain the 2019 4Runners link.
