Why is the sequoia/4Runner lacking in one feature?

So the sequoia has a power lift gate on their limited and platinum models but the 4Runner has a push to start and no power liftgate. Like what the hell. I think a limited 4Runner should also have power liftgate but if a person doesn’t like the power liftgate then just like every other car that has a power liftgate you can also close it manually like you would a normal tailgate.
What’s with the sequoia still not having a push to start for a Toyota flagship? I love push to start and I love my Toyota Venza for that but I was checking out Toyota Sequoia and as nice as it is no push to start!!! Same with 4Runner because I had checked it out and no power lift gate??? Why Toyota why.

If a push button starter and automatic lift gate are what's important to you- stick to your Venza, bro.

You won't be running trails like you could in a Seqoia or 4Runner- but you have more unecessary buttons that can shit the bed to perform simple tasks.

My wife's RAV4 gets pissed every time I try to pull up/down it's power liftgate.

It's too slow. I can do it manually much faster in my 4Runner or Caravan.

These are body on frame trucks, not tall cars like the Venza. The Sequoia may be the largest SUV short of the 200 series Land Cruiser, but it is not Toyota's flagship model. If lack of push to start is a deal breaker, you shouldn't really be looking at a 4Runner or Sequoia in the 1st place, they accel at things it would appear you don't care about.

Heck I even had a 2007 Lexus IS 250 awd and that was awesome in snow for a low “sport” sedan. I don’t see how adding a push to start to a sequoia or a power liftgate in a 4Runner will break when compare to the useless window down that I am sure most people that own those truck frames use. Plus there is a more chance of a failure from those glass then there is from push to start or a liftgate with power. Even keep cars offer push to start and so does Subaru now. Even a Chevy suburban has a push to start and a Ford Expedition. They even got rid of the v8 in the 4Runner and your calling that better or smarter?

Ever try sitting in the back seat with your arm in the trunk holding in 4 sets of golf clubs while while you drive home in the pouring rain? That was us in my uncles Infiniti FX50. We were on Vacation in OBX when that happened.

I always told myself that an auto liftgate was unnecessary when bought the 4Runner, because some people made mention of how much they like the feature. That day just reinforced my opinion.

My wife has a Highlander with an auto opening back hatch and she has, on more than one occasion, had it auto open in very small parking garages right into the ceilings. As 4runner owners, this could happen more often into a swing gate bumper, right through a bat/fox wing awning, etc and cause more than just cosmetic damage.
Additionally, if it came on 4runners there would need to be an option to disable it, as my guess is most of the owners wouldn't want to deal with this.

Car companies do this all the time. If they put everything on all the vehicles at the same time, there are no/less updates for the next year. It has nothing to do with off road ability or reliability.

I have seen this over and over with simple things like different backup cameras throughout the line, one crap, one updated. Homelink option on some not others. Auto adjusting rear view mirror, etc etc. I expect in time you will see both having both.

What really needs to be discussed is that today I got a sequoia as a loaner car, and DAMN I want that V8 in my Runner :dammit:

Haha my mom has the 2010 Venza. I rarely use the power lift option because it is too slow. For her, it makes sense because she deserves convenience.

I test drove ever car I have purchased. Yes I am waiting for the sequoia or the 4 runner to have either options. Yes I am interested in the right 4Runner/ sequoia and thang is why I am asking why Toyota did not put that feature.

There is a simple work around for this in most every car with keyless. Google is your friend.

I hate digging for keys. My wife loves having her keys in her purse. It is a first world problem but not sure I will every not buy push start. Ymmv.

Just put the fob on the push 2 start like every Toyota p2s, easy fix until you get new battery in your fob.

Hey, we don’t need no DRUM freaking brakes on the Tacoma...because it is reliable. We don’t need no boxed frame on the Tundra...because it is reliable.

Like it or not, conveniences are nice to have, such as power lift gate or push starter. And at $45k or so for Limited 4runner, these omissions are glaring when you compare them to every other vehicle within that price range. Now, on a $60+k Sequoia Platinum? That’s even more outrageous.

or how about cheap ass FAKE wood on an $86,000 Land Cruiser? Yes, FAKE. WTF?!

I can assure you that your transmission in 4runner will fail long before power lift gate gets broken. That XREAS shocks will go kaput long before one touch starter goes out.

BUT, even if either fails, then that’s fine because people who buy Limited or Platinum are willing to pay for them to be fix. Who are you to say otherwise?

By the “logic” from some of you...why buy a vehicle ABS or have ATRAC? Those things wear out the brakes even faster!!! Power rear view mirrors? OOHHHH NOOOOO!!!!

When it dies, you throw the fob away and walk home.

It’s in the Owner’s Manual of every car that has push-to-start. Usually page 40 of most manual. On more expensive models, they advise you to use Uber since you for sure have more money.

So I will weigh in on the push to start thing, since my trade had it and two of my other curent cars have it. when you get in the car, in the same way and place the 4runner says "maintenance required" the car says low key fob battery, I bought a 10 pack... I think it was a 10 pack of key fob batteries a few years ago as soon as it says low battery you just change it, like the remote for your tv or literally anything else that has batteries. additionally there is usually still a key. I am getting to the point were I am feeling like a photo may help here, but even on a vehicle with keyless entry and keyless go there is a place in the door for a key, and that button that you push to start... it comes off with no tools and behind it is a key hole. so when your key fob craps out it's about as inconvenient as when an escalator becomes stairs. I would also mention that the power lift gates that I have had experience with, you can still open and close manually and as long as the hydraulic arm things don't fail, which would be a pain, if your power lift gate fails you're just back to what the 4Runner has now, so no worse for wear. the story about the infinity and the golf clubs, that sounds like the latch mechanics failed more than the lift gates ability to go up and down. but I am sure there are variations between models and manufacturers.
