Why no 4Runner TV Commercials

Maybe I personally have never seen one, but why don't you ever see 4Runner TV ads? You see so many of them on the roads you would think they would have some sort of commercial sometime. They have spots for their fuel efficient cars, trucks, and even Sequoyas, but the 4Runner is missing. I would love to see it cruising through the mountains or mudding around.

I know the true answer to this is that our 4RUnners sell themselves, but as someone working in the marketing field I am just surprised to see zero ads for them.

I haven't seen any in the last six months to a year, other than typical clearance commercials with various rebate amounts across multiple Toyota models.. I figure manufacturer's aren't going to advertise for trucks and SUVs when most consumers are desiring fuel efficient vehicles. Consumers who need trucks and SUVs will buy them without persuasion.

I dont think I've ever seen a 4runner specific commercial...even in the general Toyota commercials they rarely show a 4runner.

I see 4Runner commercials quite a bit but then again we are in 4Runner country in Colorado.

not sure if you guys are TV watchers but I have noticed a lot of Toyotas, mainly the Sequoia, highlander, and camery in a number of shows this year, including, Prison Break and Bones. Toyota's all over the place in these shows and the main characters are driving them, I assume the manufactures have a deal with the studios for product placement. So this can be another avenue for advertisement vs a commercial. Ever notice how 99% of laptops in movies are Macs?

Here's a scene from Prison Break with the Sequoia, I have seen 4runners in a few scenes as well.

The 2009 Corolla is also all over Prison Break. Product placement is huge... IMO it's a much better avenue than commercials for advertisement given the prevalence of Tivo, DVR and the likes. I watch a lot of tv shows 15 minutes after it has started, so I can skip the commercials and still finish by the time news is on or at the top of the hour.
