Why No Droop Bump Stops?

While I was adding pre-load to my front suspension, I started to kind of worry about doing damage to the shock- by potentially being topped-out over bumps.
I know the pre-'95 Toyotas had bump stops under the UCAs to prevent the shock from topping out, but they ditched that in '95.5.
There's been a few guys to put limit straps on their front ends, but most of us haven't.
Anyone here have any issues from having too much pre-load on your coilovers? Anyone blow out a shock- in the front- from topping out hard/often?
I'm mostly curious why Toyota ditched the UCA bumps, and if the shocks are free from risking damage.

Usually most lifts under 3" dont need anything. The CV will usually bind before the shock gets maxed out and usually the UBJ will max out first also. Either way if you are worried get some limiting straps and you can fine tune the droop.

I think it depends on how you drive your vehicle. Most folks don't need anything to limit their droop travel since most folks don't let their front suspension unload at high speed very often. Usually the shock is the limiting factor. If you drive like a dumbass offroad (e.g.: Me) you may want limit straps to keep your shock from topping out hard. Most people aren't doing much to let their shocks top out hard. Limit Straps are definitely something I am looking into since I've already killed two shocks from, what I am assuming, this issue.

So you drive like a dumbass? Ha! J/k. I never jump my rig but when crawling I never had an issue. I thought the shock could top out without problems. More of an issue when over compressing.

Yeah I get a little reckless offroad. Hence why I seem to always break stuff.
Topping out the shock isn't an issue at low speed but at high speed it can really mess up a shock. That's why buggies and trophy trucks all run limit straps.

Lifted or not- unless you add top out spacers or have longer coilovers- the shocks are the limiting factor. OEM CVs won't bind at full droop, neither will the UBJ max out- again, this is assuming stock shock travel/droop. I mentioned limit straps in my original post, and I am definitely considering them.
I am mostly just wondering if anyone happens to be familiar with the internal construction of the shock(i.e.-5100), and if it is internally bumped/designed to be topped out without damage.
If your UBJ or CVs will bind before your shock reaches full droop, I would seriously consider limit straps! AssBurns I kinda like to drive like a dumbass too, and that's why I was thinking about this. I KNOW my shocks will be topping out on a weekly basis- likely daily. I used to take a route home that had speed bumps. I bombed them, because it was fun and my suspension handled them so well. I wasn't speeding, I just didn't slow down. I didn't feel the fronts topping out, but I would be surprised if they weren't- which is another reason I am wondering if they're internally bumped. I recall being able to feel the stock front shocks topping out when I had the big pre-load spacers.
I guess it's limit strap time. Dude, I swear you already had limit straps on yours! Guess I'm thinking of someone else.

Did you guys ever decide to install limiting straps? Just installed some extended travel Kings, now I’m wondering what is going to limit the down travel of the control arms.
