Why should you buy the spare tire?

Besides just having all the tires match, are there any reasons to replace the spare tire? I am looking at replacing the stock Dunlops with better tires and don't really want to buy five.

Unless you are using the spare in your tire rotation, I don't think you should shell ou the $$. On my last two cars, my spare never saw the light of day.

Same here. I bought 4 new tires and left the spare. It may dry rot in 30 years, so I fully expect it to be there for the life of the car. Also, my spare is on a steel rim and does not match the alloy rims.

Last year I got a flat in my 1988 Acura, the spare was one of those little spares, but it worked fine.

i bought a factory rim and tire from someone and i use that as my spare..but i probably wont change the tire because it still has 40% of the tread left. that should get me to the nearest tire dealer right?

As long as the tires are the same size and your not using it in the rotation who cares if they are differnt brand. Can't see it sitting under your truck anyway. I ride on BFG's and have a older Goodyear as my spare. Save the $$$$$.
