Why such little power for the 3.4L V6?

While a supercharger technically adds more wear to the engine, the 3.4L is so overbuilt that it's still going to last a really, really, really long time.

I remember reading a white paper by Corky Bell back in the mid 80's when aftermarket turbos were pretty scarce, and superchargers were only for dragsters and hot rods. Anyway, the conventional wisdom at the time was that turbos were dogs off the line, before boost built up, and that they ate engines. Corky proved that a properly sized turboengine will produce more torque and at a lower RPM than a NA engine, and that as long as you address the additional cooling requirements for the extra HP, and keep the AF ratio in check, they can be just as reliable as an NA motor...same goes for modern superchargers.

He also made clear that RPM is what kills engines not increasing the power output down low (to reasonable limits). Reciprocating engines go through a lot of trauma when pistons, and valves and such change direction at high RPM's. Building an engine for high RPM is way more expensive than tuning one with forced induction in the standard RPM range.

Me? I'll be going with a SC eventually, as it's the easiest install, and will keep the engine running good at altitude.
