Why would Toyota do this?

Hey all, just bought my 16 TE tonight, I did not notice until I got home but... On the trail editions lift gate, why in the world did Toyota not color match the gate handle thing? Because now if I black out the emblem, it's gonna look like weird black shape thing that looks like it's been replaced and not painted.

Edt: it's called
OEM HANDLE PANEL - 2016 TOYOTA 4RUNNER (7681135320B1)

I like that it's black. I think it looks more rugged and gives me something to use to close the lift gate without getting fingerprints on the paint. You could always find someone with an SR5 and swap, they have body color handle panels.

Guess you did not do as much in depth research as I did.

You can just get the SR5 tail gate garnish, it is color matched. The black is supposed to look more rugged.

Welcome to the family.

Thanks, yeah I bought it looking at dealer photos. They didn't have a lift gate photo, I would have bought it either way. Just think it looks better colored.

Are they easy to swap?

Every time I see one color matched I do a double take. Love the blacked out look.

You bought a vehicle from a photo?

Now day most of us... my wife asked me to take her out to test drive a 4runner TRD Pro. I look at her and said there are none on the lot... what is it look like? i pulled a 2017 cement 4runner picture on the net.... not even a real picture of a car that I am about to pay 45K :-)

Then what did you test drive? How can you spend 45K on something sight unseen? Like the op?

Test driving is very important. I really really wanted a trd Tacoma, after test driving one (and a trd tundra crewmax) I went with the 4Runner trail as it was the best vehicle for my needs, and felt so much more upscale.

I usually do test drive, this was the one time I didn't. My local dealer didn't have any trails in at the time except a blue one and I only saw it from the front. I knew is buying it regardless how it drove really, I was more focused on trim, color, price. And it was storming at 7:00.

It's only a $150 part, just gotta figure out how to change out.

Well, I only test drove a limited for about 10 minutes before buying mine. All the rest of the lot was buried in snow. I didn't even see or get in mine till after I bought it, lol. I picked it out from their online inventory before I went in.

I did research for months though and I was pretty confident I could make it the way I wanted anyway.:dancin:

I agree with the OP, the black garnish looks dumb, however color matching the rear badge to you truck looks *****'n with the black garnish. Get some white Plastidip and try it out.

So you go from "why in the world would toyota..." to " no big deal, I'll just swap it out..."

I smell millennial.
LOL. Sure does sound like it, but I guess we should not judge.

I have to say this might be a top 10 in terms of noise threads. Hyperbole title sort of draws you in....
