Wife wants a Hyundai Vera Cruz 2009

The wife wants to trade in her old Cherokee sport for a Hyundai Vera Cruz Front Wheel Drive. It's got nice bells and whistles and drives pretty good but I don't know anything about Hyundai quality. The Cherokee sucked. It's had a transmission and differential replaced, all before 100K.
She likes the Vera Cruz, but I don't know about long term reliability. Anyone know anything or have a better suggestion?

I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata LX V6 and its been the best car I have ever owned. It rides really nice handles like its on rails plus very roomy. The V6 engine is quiet, smooth and pulls like a freight train. Overall pretty satisfied with the car and I have not had a single problem with it and I am now in my 3rd year. Hyundai has come a long ways!!

However I am not sure I will ever by another one. For starters Hyundai has gotten a bit greedy with pricing and everything they make is way overpriced now. Heavy incentives make up for this somewhat but you can find other makes with better reputations for the same amount or even less now. Another thing is horrid resale value. If you buy a Hyundai you better drive it until the wheels fall off or you will loose bad. The original sticker on my Sonata is 24K and I paid 21K however its worth 10 to 12K now if I am lucky. Very LUCKY!!

The other day I checked out a Subaru Legacy with the AWD. It was nicely loaded. No leather or nice wheels but it had power windows and cruise control. Basically everything you really need in a car. Plus the AWD is a major bonus. Sticker on this model of Legacy was 22K. I was like...what a car for the money!!

So Hyundai is now making a solid and well built car (maybe even more solid and well built then some of the Japanese). However they may actually be priced higher and with the bad resale they no longer represent value. I also have my doubts that many Hyundai's will see 200K trouble free miles. Initial quality is great but they don't age well (creeks and rattles). I will probably drive the Sonata little longer and take the hit and get a solid 10 year + keeper.

I think that AWD is standard all across Subaru lineup. I agree...Subaru would be at the top of my list for AWD vehicles.

dont get a subaru. Go with an Audi A4 or A3.

my parents have owned 2 subaru foresters and they were great cars. my mom drove them over 300km a week with no major issues, just regular maintnance. even took them off road a couple times and if they had a low range they would go anywhere. all the undercarrage is tucked up niceley giving them a surprising amount of ground clearence (more that their new jeep grand cherokee). their foresters were the last generation tho i cant vouch for the new ones.
