As she sits now:

Well. I guess to start off I bought my 98 Limited Runner with 209,000 miles on it towards the end of October. And well, its time to start building it up.

First thing is first, had to do the so called "Insta Lift" and took off the side steps and the tow package and have been wheeling quite a few times so far all stock.

Currently it is all stock, however there are quite a few plans for it in the future.
As of right now the only thing I have done so far is install my CB. I have the Cobra 19 Ultra 3 with a 3 ft firestick. Still trying to figure out if I need to run a ground to the antenna or not. Then will need to tune it. That is on the to do list soon.

As well as a diff drop

Currently the Front springs are backordered for a few weeks. So hopefully those will hurry and get in so I can get the lift on.

Well... Sunday Funday with some other guys from here went out for some wheelin yesterday. Here are some of the pics that I got yesterday. Definitely some fun times!

I am really hoping to have my front Bilstein 5100s come in this week as the 1st Gen Tundras were all on back order til the beginning of the month. So hopefully those will come in and the next post I will put up will be those going in!

Well i spent today putting my lift on today... Ill post up the actual process when i get a chance... But here are the before and afters just for the teasers of the process haha I put the TRD 1st gen tundra springs in the front with Tundra Bilstein 5100s all the way around and LC 8 wraps in the rear. It is definitely alot bigger than i thought it was going to be.

So as i guess you can see my front springs came in today and i was able to get everything installed... Well it was definitely an interesting experience.

so first thing that had to be done was pressing out the bushings from the rear Bilsteins due to the bushing only being a 1/2" and needing to be 3/4" in order to fit.

Once those were pushed out and the new ones in was able to start removing everything and putting the new stuff in... I went with 1st Gen Tundra Bilstein 5100s all the way around. Only the rears needed the new bushings. And then I put LC 8 wraps in the rear with TRD 1st Gen Tundra coils in the front. (which we will get to soon)

Put in extended brake line in the rear and will need todo the fronts soon most likely before the next wheeling trip.

Not gonna lie the rear end was kinda a pain due to putting the sway bar back on and having to match everything back up was a little rough but eventually got it all back together.

Was also able to put in the new rear sway bar links i got off a member here that makes them. Still waiting on the front quick disconnects. But those will go right in when i get them.

Once the rear was done we were able to get the fronts out and all swapped out as well. ***Quick note on the fronts if you go this route you will want to use the tundra top hat rubber spacer with the stock 4runner top hat as well. I was able to find some great info on the process for the lift on these sites as well

Currently the front Bilsteins are sitting on the middle 3rd perch but after driving it around today after it was installed i am definitely going to be taking it apart tomorrow to change it to the next lower perch since it is way too stiff and it bounces way to much for my liking. then there is some squeaking going on with the rears that i get to figure out tomorrow as well. As we were finishing up my dad decided i should be fine without doing my diff drop today... well long story short im going to be replacing my cv axles tomorrow hopefully as well because the cv boots are both torn wide open now because of the angle they were sitting at. Plus the diff drop, hopefully extended front brake lines, i will definitely be redoing the fronts to change the perch they sit on and hope that they will not be as rough as a ride as they are now then last but not least get the brakes done as i have everything just sitting there waiting parts wise just havent been in the mood to get them done yet... Im really anxious to get this all wrapped up and actually working/running right so i can go and test it out on a trail on sunday so im really hoping that i can get everything fixed on it tomorrow, but i guess we will see what happens.

Next up after this is wrapped up is definitely tires... I feel like the 4Runner has now skipped let day considering how small the 31s are on it... now to decide on 33s or if i should go up to a 35 size.... Hopefully will be able to find someone that will let me test fit some to see how they look.

So while last night was a really rough ride driving around i decided to change the perch setting on the struts down to the lowest setting and now it rides alot better. Was able to install the Diff drop as well as start on an alignment... I only say start because my toe was so off that while we were adjusting it found that i need new tie rods... So hopefully monday i can go pick those up and get my front brake lines extended as well as an alignment and then be able to get my tires ordered which i think i am going to end up going with 33s for now.

So first thing this morning i was able to get the tie rods in and decided to head out for a test run with the new suspension on to see how it handled. It handled pretty well for about the first 1/4 mile then i heard a big grinding noise to find that the snap ring on the front bilstein on the drivers side had failed on me and slid all the way down to the mount.

Ended up looking like this with the rest of the runner lifted ^^

then when i looked underneath it shows

And the snap ring was done for

So i limp it back to the shop about 25 miles, go pick up the new snap ring and was able to get everything fixed and back up and going in addition to geting my brakes all done today as well.

So once everything was all finished up i decided to go a little off road up to the top of the mountain that is just behind my house and everything felt pretty good so hopefully on Wednesday i can go ahead and take off the sway bars and go out on the trail and really be able to test out the suspension to see how it handles on the trail for me... I am really hoping that the fronts will hold up because even on the bottom perch on the bilsteins they still feel pretty stiff with using the TRD tundra coils. Hopefully it all settles just fine and i dont run into more issues. Considering how stiff the front is im also trying to decide if i want to test out my stock runner coils on the bilsteins and see how those feel and if they will hold up. But if these current springs keep causing problems i may end up going back to the stock springs until i can find something else to use in the mean time that will handle a little better.

Probably explains the snap ring failure since the coil seat should hold the snap ring in and not let it come out of its groove, which is what looks like happened. I thought it was weird you somehow had sheared the snap ring. Good luck!

Yeah.... now that you mention that... it makes alot more sense... hahaha looks like ill be tearing those apart this weekend or on wednesday lol wow i didnt even realize that but hey it makes alot more sense now that is for sure!! haha i guess thats what happens when you do your own suspension for the first time and done have your mechanic "my dad" (who owns the shop you do you work at) look over it... but yeah that will be getting changed now ASAP and i feel pretty dumb now to say the least lol And then hopefully it will feel alot better once that is all done.

haha yeah... i was thinking to myself this whole time... man everyone says that they ride pretty good but man i didnt think they would be this rough... I am just glad that i have keys to a full shop that i can go and use whenever i need when there is a lift open... So that will be getting fixed either tomorrow at 3 or tomorrow at 5 when the shop closes... one or the other.. But i definitely dont want to risk braking again and i cant wait to see what it is supposed to feel like lol

Well i was able to fix the spring seat last night and get my alignment today and i can say that it definitely rides alot better now that the spring seat is on the correct way lol... However, due to it also being pay day and a buddy selling his CBI bumper and tire carrier I also picked that up and was able to get it all installed as well today. Had to also replace the converter for the trailer lighting connector as the old one wasnt quite working correctly.





next up to get rid of the silver/grey fender flares and the side paneling on the doors and turn them to black, along with new tires.. It is definitely coming along though!

Well having another day off of work with nothing to do before class this morning i decided to go test out the new suspension. I still dont have my new tires yet so im stilll running 31's currently and still will have some trimming to do especially for 33's to fit without rubbing when flexing....











Next part im waiting on is my front sway bar disconnects. Cant wait for those to get here. Hopefully will make a huge difference on the front.
