Will 15 inch rims work on a '97 Limited?

My son is graduating from high school and he really wants 15" rims on our '97 Limited. However, I was told by a parts tech at Toyota just now that the Limited specifically had 16" discs, so 15" wheels will not work. Really?

The truck is at Al & Ed's right now, so I had the fellow who's doing the stereo -- and has done wheels/rims before, just not for me -- do a visual inspection for me. He found:

1. It's a second piston caliper*; and
2. The gap between the rims and calipers is only about a 1/2" right now with the 16s on there (maybe even a little less, he said)

* - I was told by the folks who will be doing the rims/tires to check on whether or not it's a third piston caliper, as that definitely would not work.

What say you folks here?

I gotta get this sorted before I order the wheels/tires, and we need to make that happen right now (it's graduation time!).

This had been covered quite a bit.

But the answer is no. The 15s will not fit. Why does he want to go down a wheel size?

Yeah, actually I did, and perhaps something like this may have been covered in one of the dozens of pages of threads that came up with each of the searches I punched in, but as I poked through various threads that I thought may be related I simply couldn't find anything specific like the subject line of my post. I was in a hurry and didn't have time to finesse my search terms enough to winnow down to the right stuff, I guess. Sorry about that. I know how enervating it is to know that stuff like that exists in your forums, but folks like me can't locate it and end up starting a whole new thread.

As it turns out, I missed the opportunity to get something ordered today, so can slow down a bit now.

Thanks for the info. Toyota had said no, but it helps to hear it from folks who work on these things day in and day out.
