Will 17" 05 Tacoma Wheels fit on a 98 Base 4Runner?

I have searched lots of forums, but I haven't found a definitive answer.

Like the title says, I am thinking of changing wheels from the 15" stockers to 17" I found on CL.

Larger wheels have more options for tires. I am looking at a Goodyear Triple Tred in 215/65/17. The stock size for the base unit is 225/75/15.

I would also like to have the option of mounting Tundra brakes, as I tow some and do not want to warp rotors.

The Tacoma wheels are off a Tacoma Double Cab Sport. 265/70/17 tires are mounted, and I could test fit and drive around some (if they won't rub) to make sure.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

with 265/70/17, you are bound for some slight rubbage.

The base 2wd suspension is very low in comparison to the other models. you might have to do some trimming and/or hammering for them to not rub. They didn't even fit on my 99 very well until I got taller springs.

My 265/70/17 (.3 in smaller than 265/75/16) had this issue:

before, slight bit of rubbing at full lock while entering driveways, shopping centers, going over speedbumps, etc..., even with trimmed mudflaps, inner fenders, and hammered pinch welds. Not like it was detrimental to the tire or anything, it was fine, but a little annoying... that's all.

I would NEVER go smaller though, dear god no. If you want to have tires that will guaranteed not rub, get 265/65/17.

If you're fine with some trimming and extra work, go for the 265/70/17.

I would considering looking into a small amount of lift afterwards.

yeah cob is right.. except i wasn't the owner when the wheels were put on my truck, so i got stuck with little tires. the previous owner wanted 265s but one the shop told the guy he would have too cut, unfortunatly he decided to go smaller but. near the future i'm goin bigger.. overall most people seem to comment on my truck. i think my wheels bring out a lot of potential. u cant go wrong with those wheels, hope everything works out for you

Wow looks nice I was thinking about going with 2003-2010 rims on my 4runner dunno witch ones I like there is so many rims out there.

You should be fine, I was running tundra wheels on a limited with tons of room, now I'm lifted and waiting to get 33's

Basically anything from a Tacoma PreRunner or 4WD, any year 4Runner, Sequoia/Tundra up to 2006, any FJ cruiser... you've got quite the selection as far as OEM.

You need a wheel that is both a 6x139.7 (or 6 on 5.5) with a 108mm hub bore. Any Toyota wheel with this lug pattern has the same hub bore.

I'm like Spish, got me some Tundra rims. I've had 4 sets of different OEM wheels. I also have a Lexus GX470 spare wheel that also fits.

15" 3 spoke 4Runner/Tacoma wheels

16" Early Sequoia/Tundra/Tacoma 5 star wheels

16" 2002 Limited/Sport 4Runner wheels

And now 17" Tundra/Sequoia Gunmetal wheels (although this particular shade as there are many was only available on the Tundra Stepside)
