Will 1K for a stereo upgrade be worth it?

I've got a limited w/ JBL (non-entune) and want to keep the same head unit.I already paid for the 1K JBL option - is it worth it to add an amp and better speakers? Will 1K buy 'more/better sound' or will it be a lateral move?

Basically - I was hoping that the JBL was going to be similar to the Audi Symphony in my old car. It's not. Not even close. I've never really done any audio upgrades on cars so looking for opinions.

I think you might have better luck posting on a car audio forum. Not very many people have paid even close to that much on a stereo system for a 4Runner. The off-road tires, lifts and gravel roads sort of nullify any quality sound we might have!

I dont know too much about audio but I have replaced all the audio components in my T4R. Adding an amp will make the speakers be able to play louder without distortions at higher volumes
