Will 285/50/20 Tires fit on my 4th gen without a lift??????

Just ordered some 20x9 inch +18offset rims for my 2006 black 4runner limited 4x2. Could I put 285/50r/20 nitto grapplers on these rims and not cause any problems without having to lift it?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Search the threads, but I think you will rub the uca, fender, and wheel well,I believe you need at least a2-3 inch lift to clear.

I think it might fit depending if you cut the mud flaps and the backspacing on the wheels is right.

It's only 31.26" which is shorter than 265/70R17 and only .66" taller than OEM tires.

The width will be a problem though, if you have too much offset they will rub the UCA. If you're not willing to at least put a leveling kit on and/or trim/remove front mud flups if they don't fit then I wouldn't get em. That is of course assuming the offset is alright otherwise lift won't help.

ok, so you bought a 9" rim with +18mm offset... that puts the centerline of the wheel at 114.3mm add the offset of 18mm and your at 132.3mm or 5.21" from the back of the wheel to the lugnut mounting surface.

the stock wheels you're replacing are 7.5" with 35mm offset, that puts the centerline of the wheel at 95.25mm add the offset of 35mm and your at 130.25mm or 5.12" from the back of the wheel to the mounting surface.

NOW,before you get all excited and think you're in the clear because there's only .1" difference and will likely clear the UCA (barely), remember you have more wheel width in the critical clearance/ rubbing radius...

9" =228.6mm-132.3mm (back to mounting surface calculated above = 96.3mm or 3.79"
7.5" = 190.5-130.25= 60.25mm or 2.37"

that's a about a 1.5" different in rim width on the outside of the tire.....

I say you'll clear the UCA but I wouldn't bet my paycheck on it and would be in the camp that you're gonna need need a daystar leveling kit to make sure it fits... I think you're definitely going to need to remove the mudflaps, and trim the shit out of your fender and move liners...

also remember the more aggressive tire you choose, the harder it's going to be to make fit... since tires are always larger than the actual wheel and the above calculations assume the tires don't overhang at all, which we all know isn't the case...

it should fit, i have 285 45 r22, its close to a 32in tire, i rub at full lock on hard turns when i do it really fast, if i go slow, itll barely clear. i did also modify my front front mud flaps, i did cut about half of it off.

I went to the tire shop and had them hold a 285/50/20 tire up to the tires I have now which are 265/70/18. They are pretty damn close in diameter. The 285's are just a little bigger but much wider. I'm assumming I'm gonna get some rub in the front. So I'm just going to go ahead and put a 1 or a 1.5 inch lift in the front with a daystar leveling kit.

I forgot to mention, I'm on stock suspension, so u might not need that. Try it without the mods first.

well, if anyone was wondering how it all worked out, the answer is no, those tires would not have fit. So i put on a daystar lift kit, 2.5 in the front,1.5 in the rear

The 285/50/20 do fit with an 18 inch offset with the lift just about perfect. I had to cut some of the wheel well shroud and just a touch of the corner of the inside corner of the bumper. did it with a box cutter, was easy and u can't even tell the bumper is cut just a little.
I also had to trim just a little of the mud guard on the inside, but again, it's not really noticeable unless you climb under the truck and look.
The rims and tires look bad ass! I'll post pics soon.....
