Will a Diagnostic Tool fix this error?

The item is the Equus CanOBD Code Reader model 3120 .

I've posted on several threads about my attempts in trying to resolve the VSC TRAC/ VSC/OFF trouble light.

The questions I have is, will a diagnostic tool that has the ability to Reads, Views, and Erases diagnostic trouble codes, be able to clear/reset the VSC/TRAC VSC/OFF illuminated dash light?

I called up Jegs and asked them to explain how the "erase" function works... they said it simple clears all error messages. So i don't know for sure if it will clear the sensor data that i think is causing the light to stay on. If i go back to Toyota, i'm requesting a zero point calibration. However, if the device does reset the sensor data, then the machine is definitely worth the money. If it doesn't, then there is no point in buying it, as long as there is an auto-zone, offering free OBDII readings for free near by.

If i go back to the dealership, i'm expecting to pay something like $110.00 for their diagnostic check. Any thoughts? I'm trying to go the most economical route.

I haven't seen an aftermarket OBD II reader that will change anything on the car except resetting the diagnostic trouble codes. There are some that will read just about anything, but none will write back to the computer system.

Follow the instructions in that other post to do the zero-point calibration.

The lights will all shut themselves off once things are working properly.

I've read your other posts. You had Check engine and vsc/trac off lights on. Dealer scan produced P0156 = bank 2 sensor 2 02 sensor when the sensor was changed the check engine light went out but the vsc/trac off lights remain on.

A good hand held scan tool will read and clear standard trouble codes. I doubt it will be able to modify of clear VSC, but that is just an opinion.

I think its a good idea to perform a zero point calibration. That procedure should apply to all 4th gens. Be sure to follow the reset procedure exactly or it may not work.

... there is no point in buying it, as long as there is an auto-zone, offering free OBDII readings for free near by...

Don't waste your money. Pulling the (-) NEG battery cable is a more cost effect and simple reset. The OBD reader won't fix the the underlying condition that throws the code nor will any reset.

I agree with the others and follow that thread to fix the condition that causes the code in the first place.

I'm gonna try it out this weekend and I'll post the results there-after
I appreciate the insight.

By the way, if for some reason the steps for zero point calibration don't work, is there a chance that something more serious could screw up as a result?
