Have a friend who needs a new motor in her 95 4Runner, sr5, 4x4. She doesn't want to put a ton of money into it and the exact one is like $1700+ used. However the newer 3.0 is around $800.
Will a newer 3.0 work in a 95 4RUNNER?

Not sure just what you mean by "newer" 3.0. As far as I know, the '95 4runner was the last vehicle to use the 3.0, so the latest version 3.0 should work.
Are you perhaps confusing it with the 3.4, which is the newer V6 that went into the 96-2001 4runners? That swap can be made, but it's not a drop in.

In 98 toyota had a 3.0 and I think it was in the camery

The 3.0 in the Camry is a bit of a different beast, the 3VZ-FE. Designed to be mounted sideways, it would take some work to put it in a 4Runner. And the 3VZ-E was wrapped up in '95, at least in the US. All 4Runners and Tacomas from '96 on had the 5VZE or 2/3RZ from the factory.
Do you have a link to the newer $800 3.0 you're looking at?

Yup, 3VZ-FE. That won't work in a 4Runner, sorry.
