Will Full luggage basket = less gas mileage

If I put my luggage in my roof rack basket will it really make my T4R get less mpg? I figure it's the same as putting it in the rear. You have to haul the weight no matter what right? I normally drive around with my basket on top, just wondering if where I distribute the weight will matter.

BTW - It's a 1200 mile road trip.

more air restistence because the the air will be forced around the luggage as opposed to between the bars of the rack, only a slight drop though

x2= The weight is not the factor it is the wind resistance that will affect the MPG however it should be minimal.

x3 it's drag more than weight but weight is a factor as well but minimally so, but may add up over the 1200 miles if your carrying an anvil up there, same reason they cut weight so much on space shuttles it costs around 8-20K per pound to get stuff in orbit, lol i wonder what the calc would be per pound to the gallon, lol yeah i'm bored.:roadkill:
