Will the 2nd Gen Tacoma Skid Plates fit on the 4th Gen 4Runners

Does anyone know if the 2nd Gen Tacoma Skid Plates fit on the 4th Gen 4Runners? If so got any pictures?

I doubt it. They use completely different frames, different front suspensions, and different drivetrains.


ETA: Oh, doh, I thought you wrote 2nd Gen 4Runner. That's what I get for not reading more carefully...

Yes, it will fit. There are a few members on here who have it (HERE). Although, I believe some slight modifications were needed to mount it (different mounting brackets or drilling new holes). I actually just installed the OEM FJ skid on my truck. It mounted right up, no modification needed. You may also want to consider it too as it looks very similar to the tacoma skid.

I'm not completely sold on the look yet. I'll give a week or two for the "newness" to wear off before deciding to remove it.

You talking about stock thin skid, or aftermarket offroad skid? In any case, for the most part the mounting points are the same for the 2nd gen Tacoma and a 4th gen 4Runner, though a little modification will be needed to get the bolts to line up. If I remember correctly, Tacomas use much larger bolts at the mounting points than the 4Runners.

Because I haven't looked at one up close, I can only tell you they look exactly the same from the pictures I've seen online. As for the mounting holes, I believe the Tacoma skid requires some modifications before everything lines up. Again, this is only based on what i've read from other users.

Thanks. Yep. I was under the impression I would have to wiggle it around or bend it but it went right. I simply unbolted the front OEM 4runner skid, as the FJ Skid uses the same exact mounting holes. It has long spacers for the rear bolts to keep it level with the rear skid and mounting brackets for the front mount points to allow it to curve up. IMO, it would look better with a little lest curve so I may try to bend it a little.

I just used the stock FJ skid, or "bling plate" as its called eslewhere. The rear mounting bolts were huge but only because they were fed up through a large spacer. The actual thread amount engaged was similar to stock. I was actually suprised everything fit, mounting brackets and all.

It was from a friend's 2007 FJ so it was free. Otherwise, i dont think I would have paid to get one.
