Wimpy Horn!

Just replaced battery after it failed testing. Thought that might help "beef up" my horn, which sounds like a British Mini. Any suggestions from owners who have been through this before? Is it a DIY situation?

Yeah the horn sounds wussy alright. I was thinking of replacing with a small on board air compressor and a couple train horns. But I also don't live in a high road rage, hang out the window and shoot kind of place. Not sure if you do. [emoji3]

Any advances in horn technology for 3rd Gens?

I replaced my Toyota horns with ones from a new model F-150. They are a lot louder and basically bolted into the stock locations.

I installed the PIAA Super Bass horns. They have a deeper tone and of course, are louder: Amazon.com: PIAA 85115 Superior Bass Horn: Automotive. Sound clip here: PIAA | Automotive Superior Bass Horn (330/400Hz) #85115.

Another popular choice is the Hella horns: Horns | HELLA, mostly the Sharp tone and Super tone. That should give you some good options!

All are plug and play. We have only one connector but two horns if that helps with installation.

I just swapped out my stock horns for the PIAA's.
So much better sounding over the stock beepers!
For just over $40 shipped to the door, I wish this had been done long ago.

I don't use my horns often mostly because I just go with the flow on the road. But when I did use them I always felt a bit embarrassed that the horns sounded so weak and puny. "That sound came from my car"? (puts head down)

Install was pretty easy, remove two 12mm bolts (one per horn) and unplug old horns, plug in new horns and add the supplied ground wires (next to each horn there is a 10mm to loosen and slide in the ground wire, bolt back in. Done.

Thanks for making this thread as I now feel confident whoever I'm honking at will now actually hear me!

A friend had a 1998 Tacoma. Her horns were wimpy. I bought horns at the boneyard from a late model Toyota car. Might have been an Avalon. They were much better, and they were plug and play.

Yeah I think we have the same horns as Camry's... it just doesn't fit!

I see you are in Sac so if you see me on the road (red TRD decals can't miss it) give your horns a nice loud blast!
